Australia bans "Engineered stone"
ToughButterCup replied to Temp's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Hmmm, I didn't explain properly. I'm thinking of the small scale sawdust, and sanding or drilling dust. I dunno why this Teutonic, Goth , Vandal approach gets to me, but it does. I mean whats wrong with facing into-wind when sawing, or opening the bloody windows and doors when sanding? I suppose it just shows that I'm an amateur. -

Australia bans "Engineered stone"
ToughButterCup replied to Temp's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Just been reading about this issue in Germany. Standard cutting procedure now must include dust extraction - even on site. Firms like Festool (others too?) have been pushing site-based dust extraction. -
Tiling Battens - Coloured or Clear??
ToughButterCup replied to MrMartin's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Ask to see the relevant invoice. If the battens aren't treated, then deduct the difference (£!00?) . NHBC standards are irrelevant. If sub-standard battens have been fitted , then look for additional shortcuts. Overall, it's probably not worth the aggro : especially if you have a good relationship with your roofer. If that happened to us - I'd just have a sharp sentence or two about it. Plus a smile and a straight look. -

I got our VAT back for our Geberit frames and toilets Gary. In German, VAT is MWSt and probably 19% -
Paintballing & planning implications

No, none of us do - or can. A local planning consultant (whom you employ) may well do so. The best thing you can dio is to network locally and listen to informal but authoritative informed opnion . Golf course, Rotary Club, local Councillors, local planning consultants and a trawl through the LPA website for similar (analogous) applications. -
Can you recommend a Cantilever toolbox
ToughButterCup replied to Adsibob's topic in Tools & Equipment
I now, after having tried everything else, use a wheelbarrow and three buckets. Bucket 1 has everything to do with drilling or driving , drills, bits, batteries Bucket 2 , cutting screwing, sawing, spanners Bucket 3 , commonly used other stuff, hammers, ticklers, nagglers, measuring, lasers, extensions , levels I visited @Jeremy Harris place once. He threw everything into one wheelbarrow. Full. To .The .Brim. -
The Minister responsible doesn't understand the situation, neither does his PPS or the PPs' pps, neither could they give a flyin' fookety fook. Not going to be there more than a few minutes more are they...

Hello @waylanderUK. How about going paintballing yourself? -
Welcome. Sure? '...anything....' not even if you sell it to them? And Off-grid via solar (as part of a package) in Cumbria ? That'll be the shaft of sunlight I can see on the Southern Fells from here on Clougha Pike then 🫠 And what are you going to do with the little bits of power generated that are under the (self consume) charge threshold. Take a day like today. Just tiddly bits of power generated, but all below the 800W threshold our EDDI requires before it stokes the fires in our SunAmp. OK, small bits of power, but over time that'll be a worth a night in the pub with the family. Pernikety? Me? Anyway, you're in Cumbria. God's Own Little BackYard. Wonderful. PS OK @IanR, that is too tidy and well-installed to be put on BH. Yer sparky's an obsessive.

Westminster planning permission consultant
ToughButterCup replied to hrxv1's topic in Planning Permission
Tiny bit niche for us yokels. But why dont you review a good few online PP submissions online and see whose signature is on a range of them. Select three, ask for a fee proposal and you are in business. -
Reading the entire thread I started to wonder how much work you have done (or had done) for a, or as a Domestic Client under CDM 2015? As far as many trades people go, Domestic Clients are second class citizens (customers) for a whole host of understandable reasons. On your own project - as a Domestic Client - you will not have the 'clout' that a company has. Unless you are like Gary ( @nod ) who can be as blunt as he wants because he's worked directly with and for people who have been good mates for years. And knowing him, he has a good handful of favours in his back pocket. OK, he makes the odd error like lettinng his OH go into a tile shop unsupervised. But .... 2 months.... have a look at Robin Clevis on YT, and the build of his own house. Even he didn't manage that time frame. I would love you to be right though.

Looks wonderful.... probably because somebody has a good eye for color...? -
Welcome @Will_OB. You have one key advantage. An established network of contacts in the trades and professions. And a track record of working with them. Priceless.

ToughButterCup replied to johnannik's topic in General Structural Issues
Oh please come round Gary, and shout that really loud for the rest of the family to hear. They'll believe you. But, wimmin; - They will do what they do do. Phhhhhhhhhh....... -
I blame you. How mamy years married? And you let her go into a tile shop. On her own. Unsupervised. Just before Christmas. Thats just male negligence. Sorry mate but someone's gotta say it.

MVHR Design help!
ToughButterCup replied to Tosh's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Every MVHR company I talked to could not / did not want to see the point that I made to each of them - very politely. There is a conflict of interest inherant in the way systems are designed and marketed. The supplier designs the system. The only way round the issue is to ask another (2?) companies to quote for the same job. Compare and contrast, post here and we'll confuse you some more 😑 -
Send him to Lancashire please . He'll never ever want for work. Lucky you are indeed
