Wetroom - Forget it Pal. Damn and blast it
ToughButterCup replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Yes. Want. That easy word. Yes, I want to. Lying in bed, cat purring, warm, comfortable, second piece of toast - I want to and I imagine I could. Then the Devil whispers in my ear - Form it, Form it, you know you could. In my minds eye I can just see Jeremy Harris , head in hands, groaning softIy. " Optimism Bias " Tell ya wot. I'll chew on this today, and post later. After an hour in the gym. Sod it. -

Not one to give up easily, I found this .... Level Access showers - the kind of thing that gets put in to bathrooms when the bath needs to be taken out. Does anyone have any experience of using them, or putting one in? -
Making our own window cills (sills)

Thanks Ed, brilliant. I need to adapt one or two things, but that's not too difficult - I'll get on with it..... -

"Yew've got two speeds lad, dead slow and stop" Sergeant Williams commentary on my efforts during the Log Race last Century. He was right. I am slow. But I get there. Like I am slowly getting there with our windows. Slow, cautious. Of course it helps if you have a brilliant mate called Ed who produces stuff like this for all to see. Ed, could you please explain the build up of the connection between the window and the cill (sill) in the first few seconds. particulalrly, what's that stuff that appears to be under the window.... 0:07 Ta!

... but that's all - not that bad; like every other applicant, you just have to do it. And in self building there's a lot of that. Just Do It. -

... without a fight. One has now been fitted. It really does matter where the S/C is fitted. It needs to .be accessible, and I will never fit just one. They do fail.

Yes Dave, And thats not on. -
Why didn't I think this through earlier? The problem was staring me in the face....... This is the cross section of our slab You can see that the slab is 100mm thick. (Red elipse) It has some 193 mesh in it ... And I had thought I could put this Wedi shower tray in..... until I decided I should maybe add 6+90+40 before I did anything else. So, its 136mm deep overall. This is the document that nudged my brain into something like coherant thought .... Talked to the architect ... stumped as well. I really really wanted a flat floor wetroom. Really. I'm stuffed now aren't I ? As @Russell griffiths puts it so eloquently .... URGH FOOK FOOK FOOK. Learning a new set of skills is bloody painful.

Schmoozing your wife while cooking together is inevitably affected by an exploding cooker switch innit? This is the miscreant - miserable thing hasn't even got the decency to show any damage - or have blown a fuse or anything. Look at it, not a mark on it........ (greasy, yes, but otherwise intact) Namelss, generic cooker hood, at least 15 years old, took 30 minutes to extract from the hood part of that time required me to lie on my back on the kitchen surface and work as if I was replacing parts on the underside of a car. Nearly went to sleep. Doesnt look like its meant to be replaced because the slider (rheostat? top red and blue wires) is soldered , not push fit connectors like the rest. Bin the cooker hood? Ask @Onoff or @ProDave to travel the length of the UK to fit a new one? Cos they'll do it right first time. DIYable?

Soft close toilet seat hinges

And in my case cracking -invisibly- with the inevitable happening. On initial contact , the crack opened and on -how to put this, ermmm ?- under full pressure the crack closed. Firmly. Clenching its nasty teeth into my withers. Stop being a girl, Ian. And stop screaming. I did. To help me stop screaming I got up - well, started to get up - with yet again - the inevitable happening. Oh shit! Exactly. Jump in the shower. Jump into trousers Off to an interview. Sat in the lobby for ever it seemed. "Do come in we're ready for you now" Stood up. Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo. That hurts Trousers stuck to my leg with blood. Which had trickled through and also stuck to the seat. @Temp - buy the most expensive loo seat money can buy. You know it makes sense. Honest. -

Heads Up! Ordering from Germany.
ToughButterCup replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
The explanation given was that it was just too much hassle. Not so much from a supply point of view but what they called 'on costs'. Guarantees extending over several years and so on... I suspect the relatively small proportion of business generated in the uk might also have been part of the Consideration. Grosse Scheisse ist das Alles. I mean look at the amount of uk building stuff that is German in origin....
