  1. Floor finish will be tiles The trap I want to use is this one , or at least something like it : a circular drain hole set in the middle of a sloped surface ready for tiling. Wheelchair accessibility is a given. Its so tempting to forget it and simply shove in a shower tray and be done with it - a few people have suggested I do so. They probably haven't got an injured back, or arthritic hips. Those little jokers are not going to go away. A boss on the stack? No. A straight piece of 110 pipe sticks up 100mm above FFL
  2. Because the author said so. Far too respectful me. I'll keep looking.
  3. We really wanted coffer lighting ( sometimes called cove lighting), like this - or something like this ] But now that I've read Lucy Martin (2003) The Bible of Home Lighting (page 111) and looked at our ceiling level I realise the importance of a callout on page 111 Bummer. Short of sawing off the bottom chord of a few POSIs ...... And then I saw this YT video of Robin Clevett's kitchen. Made me think I might just be able to squeeze one in. When all the ceiling PB and skimming and floor is finished we should have a little under 2.4m clearance. Thats not enough is it? Any way round this little hiccup?
  4. Its 100mm, Ed Exactly as planned - in our case a bit of a suprise really ? So the drain from the shower tray - as shown above will likely cut into the top bit of the top layer of the the EPS 100 . The Radon DPM layer is 200 below the bottom of the concrete Does that matter? There is a Wedi Riofino shower tray that has a horizontal drain: but I suspect there might be a hissing and a booing about horizontal drains from the Commentariat about that {?} It shows that the drain is 60mm or so deep ( i.e. dig out 65mm), which means that I would not have to cut into the EPS 100 below it. What do you think?
  5. Welcome to STEEP LEARNING CURVE Central We pick up your dropped goolies. And I have dropped more than my fair share. PS, just up the road from you: passing Forton Services going North, next left and then first right. You'll be welcome anytime Ian
  6. The drain: I want it to be rodable. How much lower than the bottom of the drain assembly do I need to go?
  7. Used AVG, free, paid for and some of their add-ons on multiple platforms for many years (10+?) now. Never once even a hiccup
  8. Yes, read that. But, but but. I'm living with mistakes made long ago. The configuration of both the foul wastes and the window (smack bang in the centre of the north wall) together mean that we cant have a screen. But - to get through the Regs - we will need a screen of sorts. We will erect a temporary shower curtain, wait until sign off, and then take it down. Which is why I am grateful for @Onoff's advice (and others) to tank the place to oblivion
  9. Hmmm. Already worrying about that. Tanks for the heads up....
  10. Right then. That's what I want to hear. I'll start next year then (after the divorce)?
  11. Hmmm, very interesting indeed. A Know-Nowt like me reads as follows and and and to cap it all off here's yer man who says ... Sho, shum shay, top down, others bottom up I have come to know and trust all of the contributors to this thread. Does this mean it doesn't matter? - Just Bloody Start Somewhere, Anywhere - and cope with the consequences?
  12. Yes. Network, network, network. With the accent on work..... Its not easy
  13. For a self-build, the business case for something like KwikStage (others available) is compelling. Just about to sell ours and expect to get back what we paid - roughly. Have you looked at the rental costs? Heaving KwikStage around under trees and near hedges would be a real pain in the Botticelli.
  14. Our wetroom. I feel sick. And for months I have been doing other jobs instead - not that there's any shortage of them. But this particular one fills me with dread. Here goes. What have we got? This..... The North wall The south wall The east wall The west wall ( all bar a little bit) and we'd like to use a Wedi Riofino base for the shower bit - like this I dont know how many times I have dipped my big toe into @Onoff's posts - many many times. And while its been instructive, its also itemised what I can get wrong. Geberit Sigma frame and AquaClean Tuma already bought. And a small Geberit hand wash basin. SWMBO has the tiles detail. Small area of electric underfloor heat ( a square meter or so) On the east wall, we'd like Multipanel. Elsewhere tiles. Lets start with a simple question: walls before floor or the other way round?
  15. Welcome - Kiwi (or maybe the Scot?) There's a significant contingent from North of Hadrians Wall - the rules for you are a little different from the English rules. Some members are quite open about their location, others not. Have a look at the signature used by the person posting - that might help you to make contact. I expect you'll be up in Glasgow at the end of May? If so, might see you there.
  16. Price will, in part at least, be about location. Where do the bricks need to be delivered?
  17. Hmmm, well the Germans strike again. Two sinks from Victorian Plumbing £119. 90 - shipping £23 Two sinks from reuters.de (Geberit) Euro 128 - shipping Euro 17.80 Other Charges £15. Where d'ya think I ordered from?
  18. The answer to that's easy Gary. You have forgotten more about building than I will ever know.
  19. For once, I can say - yes, I have got that one under control. Do I get £200 and avoid jail?
  20. Looking at the elegant simplicity of a simple bowl acting as a sink - unencumbered by taps or soap holder - lulled me into a false sense of preparedness to buy..... Easy to clean, I thought Easy to install, I thought Simple design, I thought - I like that. But then the other bits of my brain woke up. No overflow No taps How is it fixed to the surface? What happens if a grandchild grabs the sink and pulls? How d'ya clean round the bottom of the outside of the bowl? Snog, Marry, Avoid?
  21. Yes @dpmiller ... all the way round....
  22. Haaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh, many of us have one o' them ? Trouble is they're always right. Cant help you with your current question , but when it comes to procrastination - oh boy have We Got News For You ...... read this lot and weep.
