Dismissal? Depends on the quality of the argument. Why not wait and see what is written? -
Hi ya ! Start with the soft and smelly. It gets forgotten - pushed to the back end of the queue for some reason. Can't imagine why.

MVHR is Largely Bogus
ToughButterCup replied to DavidHughes's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Oh bleedin' 'ell... I thought it was just me... it makes me so cross. My folks would not (affect not to) notice if all the lights - inside, outside in my lady's chamber, garage, hen house, piggery all came on at dawn and weren't switched off at about midnight -

How might this scheme take money from wealthy people? Might you mean reduce the incomes of wealthy people? -

40 years! Best friends with Building Control yet?

Welcome There's too much information on BH. You can spend your life reading here. Remember, we're interested amateurs not professionals. Well there are one or two , but they keep quiet about it ( specially the doctors )
-
So far, so good with us. Well behaved little unit.
-
Please, whatever you decide, do your Due Diligence on the contractors. We are just interested - helpful, hopefully - amateurs. I hate to quote corporate slogans : do it right (Wickes). A temporary fix just puts you in a bind when the seller points the temporary fix out, and gets quotes to do the job properly, and makes an offer that reflects the cost. Meanwhile you have lost the house that you wanted to buy.... and you are crying into your pint of foaming liquid.

They can, because there's too much work....

It keeps them warm: all that hot air. Offence taken, re-manufactured, deepened, refined, spread further - followed by ; Charelottesvill , Charlie Hebdo , documented infamy. Bring back National Service - yeah for bloody Daily Mail reading pensioners.
-
We solved that issue with a small electric mat - £50, trickle of warmth every now and then . Very cheap, hassle-free.

Just a thought. Will you need UFH upstairs? I ask because I have read other threads where more experienced SBs have decided against - UFH upstairs might well be unnecessary ?
-
= I don't need the job
-
No. Not without ventilation or vapour barrier of some sort. Here's a link to a sensibly written explanation of the differences between warm and flat roofs. The picture isn't quite a simple as portrayed above, though. As I understand it, there are several membrane types to chose from. I'll leave discussion of that to people who know what they are talking about. Here's how we designed our bit of flat roof ( cold roof) Hope that helps a bit. Ian

The consumer unit quote is a ' ...I don't want the job... ' statement perhaps? @nod's right - there's too much work around. 20 meters of LED strip - have you bought it already? There's huge variation in the price, quality, finish and design of it, I think. If you have it in stock, the £300 appears excessive too.

Looking to self build via community group bid.

Persistence. The Lancaster Co-Housing project took years to get off the ground. They provide a really useful and detailed timeline of how the project developed - somebody has put a good deal of effort into producing this resource. Just in case the page linked to doesn't load, here's the source page The key issue is finding like-minded people with whom to work. The unifying idea is ecology, and is explained here. Just a bit of luck helps. -
Welcome. That's a well-worn path down which you are wondering. Though anxiety and bank balance levels decrease at almost the same rate ....?

New glazing, leave the pins in post putty?
ToughButterCup replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Windows & Glazing
What's putty? Never heard of it. Krickey! I've not had a good sniff of putty for many a long year. Nor linseed. Come to think of it, that might explain a few things ?
