Rules on CCTV and Public Highways
Steptoe replied to Construction Channel's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
let me be the judge of that... -
I'd agree, and, if the clock is US you can buy a grasslin with the on/off/timer for about £15, just junk the case it comes in and screw it direct into your boiler, I've done that a few times, loads cheaper than the 'boiler' specific one,

BTW, one of my cameras deliberately aims at the public highway, I have to park my van outside my house on the road at present. -

Its fine, do they show private property? If a person 'thinks' they are invading their privacy they can make you remove them, It doesn't even have to actually show their property, the onus is on the fact a person feels their privacy is being invaded, And, it is completely illegal to actually view inside AN Others buildings. -
They are generally volt free @ProDave Ls - Lr

Is it actually plugged in at all,? Believe it or not, sometimes people fit them but don't plug them into the loom.

Ripped off for a simple radiator pipe leak?? What is a fair price??
Steptoe replied to oranjeboom's topic in General Plumbing
£45 /hr I'd think is more than reasonable for the SE. After all, your time was worth more than that, otherwise you would have fixed it in the first place. That's how I work things out, is it cheaper to pay someone, or is my time worth more than the cost, -
That will NOT run off a 2kW Genny, not properly anyway, will deffo shorten its lifespan, and the gennys,

Its not that simply really, it's the way the electric is generated Vs how the hob wants to use it, At the very least you would probably want an inverter Genny, and that's a whole lot more money than your normal site type Genny.

We use this type of charger, It's actually a slightly different variant, but made by the same people, I'd rate them as excellent chargers, http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/battery-chargers-conditioners/optimate-4-dual-program-charger-with-free-extra-waterproof-battery-sae-lead

As an aside, 4amp charge on a 125Ah battery is not a trickle charge in reality.

Paslode, or air, I don't hold much weight to battery nail guns,

Yes, it's a fact if life that many houses cost too much to build, that's just as it is, and if you are building it for yourself, then it doesn't matter how much it costs. But, if you want to sell it, it matters not one jot how much it cost to build, or you think it is worth, the bottom line is this, a house (or anything else for that matter), is only worth what someone else is willing (or can afford) to pay for it. The only reason houses don't sell is that the vendor has overpriced them, FWIW Dave, I'd buy your house, but I wouldn't pay a penny over £140K for it, I could build/buy similar, in a similarish setting for that sort if money.

I know it doesnt answer your question, but, could you pour a slab?
-
would totally agree with that, I'd be fairly sure the vent has to be low level, the idea is to vent noxious fumes, (which are heavier than air), out,
-
Solution, Sheet the ceilings, put the walls up, take down a sheet or 2 in each room, I've done a few houses this way, works well from a sparks pov, yes, you still have to enter the loft, but you don't have to crawl all the way through it.
-
Oh, and I think you need a fire door too, You may already know the answer to that
-
I'd hazard a guess fumes also play a part, In a commercial garage with a pit , that pit becomes an explovsive atmospherere due to fumes gathering there,

Insurance for vehicles on private land
Steptoe replied to Temp's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
@recoveringacademic I don't know, what I do know is most insurance policies at present specifically excluded motorcycle road racing, I've only ever found 2 companies that cover it, and they do NOT cover 3rd party. Merely death or injury to myself, -

right, this is actually big news right now and is imminent believe it or not, brought about by some guy on a building site being knocked off a ladder by a digger I think, how do I know its a real possibility,? all motorsport licence holders are being swept up in it, it will basically outlaw any form of motorsport, NO insurance company will provide cover, the insurance companies body thingymagig has said so, -
Data networking. Extend or relocate router?
Steptoe replied to Nickfromwales's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
I just have a FNAS using an old raid1 PC I got donated running Ubuntu server, been going for near 5 years now nonstop with no.crashes BTW, if you do get a cctv DVR sans HDD, a cheap source of proper video HDD is an old sky+HD box, Simply remove HDD and format before putting into dvr. @Onoff Will do you a picture later when I get home, my routers are mostly Huawei, the Chinese hacker ones so the Chinese government can see my porn,,,,,, -

Data networking. Extend or relocate router?
Steptoe replied to Nickfromwales's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
ok, so the main problem with using an old router as a switch is you 'normally' lose one of the ports, as you need it for your 'incoming' cable, but, if you think you can work with that then i'll have a dig in the loft and see if I have another router kicking about, I'll even send it to you 'plug and play' , so to speak.
