So it's not done yet. Could you not do that part first and see if that solves the problem. What are you using as flashing??

Using "off the shelf house plans" yes or no?
Declan52 replied to Olly P's topic in New House & Self Build Design
1. The newts mentioned here are a protected species so steps had to be taken not the self builders fault. 2. Some times old things get found on sites that might need to be investigated further to see if they have any significance. We found old drains when doing the extension for the merchant hotel in Belfast held the job up. Just how it goes. 3. Some sites have had planning refused so need a consultant to get it passed. 4. Lots of the UK and Ireland had different ground conditions due to the result of the last ice age. Soft clays and silts can be many metres underground. Never find them with a spade. 5. If you have made ground ( correct term @recoveringacademic means that man has made it) then it would be wise to get your founds designed by a SE. 6. I got on well with mine. Both ended the job on good terms. Had to use him to certify the build stages to get a mortgage. No architect no mortgage no build. 7. Some less experienced self builders use an architect to do this task. Is it wrong. Not in my eyes. Better letting him do it than having a go themselves and making a hash of the job. 8. Some went this route as they couldn't find an architect they liked or maybe just a better feeling going this way. Nothing wrong with it. 9. Some people buy a warranty some don't. I didn't buy one. 10. Not sure what you are getting at here. 11. It's just a method of planning out tasks to ensure they are compliant with the HSE laws. Less experienced self builders won't have a clue how this all works so sub it out. 12. Your going to build a garage as a substitute for a cabin. That's a bit fancy. 13. If you don't have a Buxton water dispenser in your house then you need sort it out. 14. Your site has to be secure so if you can't find any 2nd hand then they have to be new. Can always be sold on at the end. 15. It's the law. You have to put the signage up. Out of all of these maybe the garage/fancy cabin and the water dispenser you could call an unnecessary expense. The rest will be specific to each info site and most if not complied with will result in you breaking various laws. -

Happy days. Was getting a bit worried as I think the roaming herds of wildebeest have long left these shores. -

Will what the houses look like that are close by not be a better indication of what the planners will pass. If they are all bungalows I doubt they will pass a 2 storey. Ridge heights etc will all have to be pretty similar as they won't want yours to stand out. -

Do cows and sheep count?? -
Could you cut into the wall and form a lead soaker similar to what you would have on a roof. Then at the walls edge put a concrete channel in to collect this water plus any from the paving area and have to run to wherever your closet drain is. If you haven't the height to fit a channel then make your own from some semi dry concrete and a length of 110mm pipe. https://www.raygrahams.com/products/133182-concrete-dished-water-channel-36-x-10-x-5.aspx

There's no stopping it now. Buckle yourself in tight and keep the pace up and you will be shopping for curtains in no time.

Static caravan = no probs. Humble shed = noooo.

Just build the garage and then it can act as your storage area for all the materials you will use. Can also be an office, tea hut and maybe even a toliet area if your putting one in it. Will be a practice run for you to fine tune how your build might go. -
Could the up stand not be fully sealed onto the roof. As in that bit is basically just sitting on top not really attached to the roof. Water will then track along the join till it comes out the other side.

Pick the tape which suits what Gap you have.

Would something like that expanding window tape.

While tech not a book you will find lots of information about all the good and bad bits in the various blogs that are here. Lots of info with pics as well.
-
What did you use to attach the T bracket to the upstand?? What did you use to seal the red line in the pic??
-
No one is trying to kick you just trying to get a better understanding of how it was attached to see where the issue could be. Can you stand up on the inside and see if there are any visible gaps??

Can you not put in a glade plug in type air freshener to try to kill the smell until it goes away. -
So the up stand isn't leaking but the water is getting in through where the unit sits and the up stand??? How is the window attached to the upstand??
-
They done the same with me. Luckily I could run an extension lead from my mum's to power everything that need it. What about buying a small generator and use it. You can sell it on when the house is built or keep it and wire your house up to suit being able to connect a generator if the lights go out.

Pipe laying taper tool. Recommended

Could you cut that socket down so that it is only 10-15mm longer than what the blade sticks out. Any swarf will fall out then won't mark the rest of the pipe. -
-
Can you not try it with your small bucket so when you open it out it will give you another 2ft of reach plus shortens the sling lifting it up higher.

Another week comes to an end

Can you use anything like scrap pallets to give you an area outside the caravan that will be at least cleanish. As above it's time for a serious sit down and a time scale marked out. You have other trades booked in and can't be pushed back. -
Very true I am sure that they will change the socket to whatever type of usb is the market leader at the time.
-
You want the ones with usb socket on them. You can plug the lead in and put the unit down and the phone can sit on top charging away.
