I would love to have one with a much larger handle as operating these standard valves (which I probably need to do once in a few years) is a pain. Pretty sure my wife wouldn't be able to turn it.

This is the view from the back, isn't it? Are you sure the esthetic difference would be equally noticeable from the ground floor level in the middle of the garden?

I am not sure how many options your pan gives you as your seat choice may be limited by the type of the attachment. I am struggling to stop a cheap seat from Costco from quickly becoming loose on our Ideal Standard pan.

Fair to say the next step is hiring a structural engineer? Or do I need to have ground tests first?

No way to have an insulated slab in these conditions?

Yes, thought about that. The equipment I want in the gym eventually is rather bulky so wouldn't fit comfortably, although 25m2 internal is probably enough for most. Only as the last resort though.

I was naively confident that on our relatively large plot it would be easy to build a gym/temporary accommodation. But a recent thread got me quite worried that 2 or 3 meters from Leylandii is too close and likely prohibitively expensive. Here is the picture of the corner where I hoped to have it - 9m by 6m structure so would require BC. Yes, replacing the kids play house. The trees are about 7m tall on the left and 4m at the far side. How is my luck?

Here is a picture I took while watching American TV show - they installed a new support beam. Doesn't answer the insulation question, sorry.

We have something similar. I put a towel in a circle around the drain and then the plunger works fine.

@Visti, it's a very thorough comparison. Looking at your original costing (from 2 years ago), it seems the "basic" price comes close to the sum of "ceiling + walls", but of course upgrades are much more expensive. I hope you will get a chance to update your spreadsheet sometime.

What happens if I already have a house for which I have planning to extend? I want to build a rather large gym and live in it during the build. I know I can build it under PD rights, but do I need a permission to reside in it temporarily (assuming no proper kitchen but possibly internal WC/shower)?

Choosing a timber-frame …

Hi, Could you possibly share the names of the companies you are talking to, via a PM if you prefer? Still looking for somebody who'd do an extension rather than a new build. Thanks! -

Your Home Made Perfect - Best design prog I have seen
oldkettle replied to Ferdinand's topic in Property TV Programmes
A new episode is available now. This is a "screenshot" of the design. Is this even OK from BC point of view? The Irish architect redesigned a narrow kitchen into - well, a narrow kitchen with a step behind which looks pretty dangerous to me: yes, it is only 20cm, but one can have a hot pan while accidentally making this step. Very surprised he did it this way. -
Isolators: easy to reach ? Where have you put yours?
oldkettle replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Power Circuits
Out bathroom/utility is planned next to the kitchen and I thought it could be possible to use the corner as a storage or for a washing machine/drier on top of it. Would have been even better as a shower (well, a part of it) but too narrow for this. -

Yep, it does look great. I just wonder whether the isolated corner has been added to another room? -

Sorry, maybe I am just imagining things. ? Usually when there is a line of floor to ceiling cabinets, the corners become difficult to access. It looks to me as though in your kitchen these high cabinets are in a niche? And hence the corner to the right of them is in fact not inside the kitchen at all. -

Completely off-topic, am I right that you have solved the right corner problem by adding it to another room? -
Designing gas central heating for DIY maintenance.
oldkettle replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Plumbing
But do these maintenance contracts include free boiler replacement? I doubt it which means - as said by others - they are not particularly good value. Edited to add: I also look at it differently. My gas bill at the moment is well over £600, so even 360 extra don't sound too bad. Agree, that when I retire it won't be that easy. -

Last time we installed WB it came with 7 year warranty. We paid about £2K, this is SE, and we had not much choice as the old boiler packed up in winter. But after that we paid 70-80 for the service by the same certified WB installer. So even if we assume a new one is required after 7 years (which is highly unlikely) the overall cost per year will be (2000+80*6)/7<360. I suspect in reality it is a bit lower. Now, was your number above for maintenance only or for the whole thing, @epsilonGreedy?
