  1. Yeah. You contracted the company to do the inspections, not this guy. So your complaint is with the company.
  2. 404, but I found it at: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/wood-burning-stoves-face-ban-in-pollution-crackdown-srp6dn6cw
  3. As far as I can tell, that scale is based on the OS OpenData set. Licensing is similar to Creative Commons Attribution ("cc by"): https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/business-and-government/licensing/using-creating-data-with-os-products/os-opendata.html
  4. Good old streetmap.co.uk will give you 1:2500 OS maps that you can screenshot. For example: streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=466546&Y=158103&A=Y&Z=106&ax=468046&ay=158103
  5. I bought one of these from Amazon. MX does several different sizes and it comes with a decent waste: MX Low Level Stone Resin Shower Trays with FREE Waste | All Sizes | 30 YEAR Warranty | UK Manufactured
  6. I am not a lawyer. But it's my understanding that, in England and Wales at least, you need to demonstrate the milestone of, “a material operation comprised in the development begins to be carried out,” per the 1990 Act as amended—specifically §56(2), §56(4)(b)—and per the Planning Officers Society note JDS/061112—specifically §2.4. Demolition sounds pretty damn material to me. Note that you merely need to demonstrate that you've begun to demolish.
  7. Interesting. Looks like you need to be a civil servant of other public-sector worker (or retired from same). So @Coopers and @JSHarris might be interested
  8. If rendering/plastering onto something like aircrete blocks (e.g., Thermalite), then consider starting with a thin PVA mix beforehand (something like 25% PVA to 75% water, I think, but don't quote me)
  9. I agree, but that's not what I was suggesting ;-)
  10. What pressure? It sounded like @oranjeboom is just flushing it through, with a hose at one end and a bucket at the other

@Coopers are you following this? I think @PeterW is saying to roll "10 to dust" self-binding gravel over planings. Worth a thought once this is all over...
  12. If I read your post correctly, you're filling/flushing the pipework from a garden hose that's dripping. If there's a drip, there's an opening to the atmosphere. If water is flowing past an opening in a pipe, Herr Prof. Dr. Bernoulli says it'll tend to suck air into the pipe.
  13. Thus spake the Phoenix from the flames that engulfed Ice Energy... 10.18 pence/kWh…will apply to all new RHI registrations and anybody who registered for the RHI on or after 14th December 2016 will have their payments automatically uplifted (anybody who registered for the RHI prior to that date will remain on their pre-existing tariff). … Full details of the announcement can be found on the Ofgem website.
  14. I am not a lawyer. My understanding is that you need to demonstrate the milestone of, “a material operation comprised in the development begins to be carried out,” per the 1990 Act as amended—specifically §56(2), §56(4)(b)—and by the Planning Officers Society note JDS/061112—specifically §2.4. In our case, the “material operation” that we began to carry out was the digging of a trench, which was to contain part of the foundations of a rear extension. Note that we didn’t need to dig the entire trench—I got less than a foot down—the point was that I’d begun to carry out a material operation, in order to save the permission from expiring. Our Planning dept wasn’t happy about it, but their lawyers said that was sufficient. (LA is Basingstoke&Dean.)
  15. Looks like you have an astrium wall/eaves in several places; consider making access for storage. Consider rearranging the bathroom so you can have a Jack&Jill door arrangement with bed2. Move the kitchen sink to the other window, so it's closer to the hob. How about a full-height window in gallery above front door?
  16. @Coopers bought an MTD from fleaBay. It kept throwing its belt, too. I fiddled with it for ages before I realised it was the wrong size belt -- not the length, but the width. £12 to Bearing Boys later, and it stays on. Now all I have to do is fix the engine so it stops stalling...
  17. You can buy audiophile SATA cables, "for to make teh em-pee-freez sownd betters." I **** you not.
  18. I'm pretty sure this would also violate the code (sans disclosure)
  19. If he's getting them free or at a reduced price, he should be saying so. Otherwise, he's violating an ASA code.
  20. I'm guessing @JSHarris and others might find today's episode amusing... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fs9vqpJwzJ8&list=PLwMzOUIf2_b6FIG18FbvgQZUrBMxOsO_r&index=10 (building a retaining wall, using Stepoc concrete shuttering)
  21. Where are you?
  22. If you plan to go to court, if you plan to threaten it, or if you choose to publicise the issue, you should be clear on terminology. I am not a lawyer, but... From what I've seen in this thread, although the manufacturer said this in so many words, it's a step too far to call it "Manufacturers instructions." It looks to me like a marketing claim. In the absence of an instruction, a builder ought to use common sense (you wouldn't pile up any blocks that high without thinking about H&S). On the other hand, a marketing claim like that is essentially a contractual promise. So your beef is actually with both parties.
  23. I guess the swelling layer is belt-and-braces. Perhaps he doesn't trust the tape being used to join the sheets?
  24. The underrated Mr. Luxton is self-building in the Cotswolds, as covered by the overrated H&R magazine. I thought the Passive Slab fans might be interested in the system he's using: Full playlist at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hiRazqQFrU&list=PLwMzOUIf2_b6FIG18FbvgQZUrBMxOsO_r
