  1. Not sure who is more picky. The cat or me? 😂
  2. We actually want the Glulam to come up above the FFL. The extra 30-35mm will do this nicely. Should have said.
  3. We have a 6m long Glulam beam that runs along the side of our stairwell that will remain as an exposed feature and it protudes up into the upper living area floor. We will be installing a slatted "wall" between the top of the glulam and the ceiling. PROBLEM: The glulam currently sits about 5-10mm lower than our final floor level. It's this one being inspected by the cat. We've been in touch with the glulam supplier to get a length of the wood that makes up the Glulam beam (6m x 140mm x 40mm) but they can't provide this and suggested just getting a 6m 6x2, which I can get from a number of timber merchants. My experience of these suppliers is warped, like some of the wood supplied. Does anyone know of a supplier who could provide something that is not going to warp or twist, or do I just have to get the piece in and fit it pronto with lots of glue and screws? Anyone got other idea on how to make up the shortfall? Thanks
  4. Do have appropriate foam (specified by insulation supplier) to fill those gaps to complete the insulation layer?
  5. It's worth doing the cup of water test to check the sensor is reading roughly the same as a thermometer. Replacement of this, should it have failed is cheap and easy to do. But, insert that insulation, and go do something else for a few hours/days and let it all settle down. The service will do no harm, just don't let them knock anything 😆
  6. Saw this and wondered if any Shelly enthusiasts wanted to take part. Evening next week. Cost $66 https://us.shelly.com/products/shelly-scripting-intensive-virtual-components-2025

  7. The immersion temp sensor is likely not the most accurate thing on the planet (think old style room thermostat bimetallic). Setting at 50C, it may easily get to 55C+ before it triggers, then it still heats for a little longer. Regarding the piece of insulation, even if it wasn't there before add something to do as explained above but also it helps a little to keep the lead/sensor in place.
  8. I'll carry on with wedges
  9. 😂 Not when I can get them for a tenner and free postage off fleabay. Nice try. £20 for all 4 is the offer
  10. Biting. Will you take £20?
  11. Yes, and it's fiddly. Ask me how I know 😁
  12. They are a kit, but needed some fettling.
  13. Following this link https://www.juliancassell.com/2564/fitting-a-door-lining provided by @MortarThePoint in another post I have fitted my first door lining (of 14). Rather pleased with the result. Hopefully the remainder will be as successful
  14. We did not have that condition, so no.
  15. For the first four years of our build we worked weekends only, unless we had to be there for things like concrete pours and deliveries. We had smoozed the neighbours about this and they have been great. Talk face to face to them and be honest about what might happen, it makes all the difference. Whenever we knew something BIG was going to happen we made a special effort to let them know. Don't panic Capt Mannering 🙂
  16. Something like this is what I put together, one for hot, one for cold Using these, although they were cheaper when I bought them. Have you thought about using push fit plastic to create this manifold?
  17. If this is the case, it sounds like you have plenty of length of pipe that will flex enough to meet the proper connection. Bit more digging on the horizon 🙂
  18. Two 45o bends should keep the flow going nicely
  19. On another note, borne from a current conversation with SWMBO (and you can thank me later), determine NOW where all your bathroom, kitchen, utility, cloakroom (and any other) feed and waste pipes will run. In or outside the floor, ceiling and wall voids, or are you happy to be boxing in the offending items 😁 This means serious and careful planning NOW of where all those pesky showers, bath, basins, toilets, DW, WM are going to be. Good Luck
  20. Welcome Jim, and best of luck with the application and build. You'll get asked - any plans, pics and reasons for choosing timber frame?
  21. Only in exceptional circumstances
