  1. We have a GRP flat roof that pools in a couple of areas. GRP was done well. When the green roof goes on I will have to do something about one of the areas. The other is minor and should be addressed by the green roof makeup shifting the excess water to the outlets anyway.

  5. We have an air tightness test (possible this Friday) and being asked if we want to have Part F, mechanical extraction flow rate testing, done at the same time. The name implies not needed if you have MVHR. Do I need this for building control if I have MVHR?
  6. Fit plain glass in the side panel to start with and retrofit a frosted stick on layer once BC has ticked their box? 🙂

  9. Sometimes referred to as Exhaust Air Heat Pumps, these were originally designed for studio or 1 bed flats, in which they worked well. For you property be very careful about whether it can cope with the volume of the building. I suspect it may not. Do your due diligence
  10. Not sure of the answer to your Q, but could an alternative be to have a clear edge around the frosted side panel for looking out through?

  12. Definitely not wanting a back-lit mirror. I finally want a mirror that illuminates the face properly when shaving, or putting on the Saturday night makeup 😁
  13. We are hooked on having an LED illuminated mirror with Bluetooth speakers and a shaver socket all integrated. We've seen some online, but been burnt recently with other online purchases so being cautious. Groundworker (for experience and speed) Concrete pourers Window fitters (wanted a scapegoat, and it's been worth it) GRP for roof (for guarantee) Electrician (because I'm no longer certified) ASHP fitter (only because of BUS grant) Otherwise it's been me and SWMBO 4.5 years and counting Must have saved 100's of £1,000's in labour costs
  16. I used them for 160mm PIR for our warm roof. Apart from cosmetic damage and some minor warpi g (cured by sandwiching between layers of OSB) it was fine. I walked all over it and had piles of OSB on it for a while as I was installing.
  17. This is how I did it. Used my DeWalt circular saw. They came up a treat
  18. Buy linings that are wider e.g.132mm, and then cut them to the 120mm size you need. This is what I have had to do
  19. I assume the PV will connected into the fuseboard (normal situation), therefore there is no benefit to moving the meter.
  20. I am PC and PD and have been since we started building in 2020. I am doing everything I can, including managing subbies while they are onsite, who I have used a common sense approach with - "if you fall down that big hole that I have pointed out to you and you don't need to go near, then it is your fault, not mine" Keeping design related info to hand all the time is nigh on impossible, so do keep notes and plans handy (I forgot them on many occasions in the first few years of 200 mile commutes to and from site!)
  21. Not sure this is the right forum for Internet connection topics. Applied, via Plusnet, for a FTTP connection to the new build. Openreach came out to survey. We had a lot of discussion around possible routes in and agreed they would fit a new pole, which would require some tree lopping. Got a call yesterday saying OR would cover £1000 of the work required, we needed to pay the extra £1300+VAT. The breakdown includes £1100 ex VAT for the tree lopping. Three f÷_×ing branches! £1100! WTAF? I'm breaking out the long ladder and lopping saw.
  22. Thanks for all the responses. To be clear, I am the joiner (and a lot more besides - see the blogs, this a true self build). Thanks for all the advice and tips. Time to get some bigger clamps. The glulam is exposed underneath, to one side (see photo) and to the top. I'd prefer to do this as a single piece if possible, but thinking about it, the join would only be really visible from the stairs, and eyes will be focussed forwards, not sideways (except mine of course!) What glue would people recommend?
