  1. Exact same doors that we will use Bit of a dilemma as to which to go for finished or unfinished Big saving on unfished They look really good
  2. Hi make sure the floor is clean and free of dust Paint the floor with two coats of SBR Which will seal the floor and help the levelling compound adhere to the floor You can mix this at around six part water to one part SBR and simply pour it onto the floor and brush it in with a sweeping brush Let it dry then do the same again When it is completely dry you can ad the levelling compound Mix it to a custard like texture Pour it on the floor at the furthest point from the door and spread it out as you go Any of the levelling compounds will be ok As long as it has added fibres I found that Everbuild is really good and a reasonably priced hope this helps. Gary
  3. Good Sugestion we had two to depose of and did exactly that Saved is quite a bit in concrete
  4. 1800 is exactly what we paid for ours spons is ok as a rough guide But they seem to calculate on prices based on a hourly rate Groundworks never are You May find one company is exspensive on this but cheaper on other things It very difficult to find a groundwork company that want a one off job So they tend to price higher for self builds
  5. The Yellow gypsum backer boards are really good Better performance than cement boards Ive used them on four high spec jobs last year A bit pricey at £26 each I bought a full pallet but they wouldn’t budge on price
  6. They will be fine Just watch the depth
  7. I’ve just noticed the plain board It looks like machine gun fire No need to put so many in Definately ajust your depth
  8. 150 centres will hold any board Just be careful not to sink your screws in to far Exspecially on ceiling They will pop when wet 1 mil into the paper is fine
  9. I used senco when they first came out 45 mil max We got over it by drilling an exstra hole on the adjustable nose piece
  10. Hi Ian ive had site fencing from this guy He was very fare with the transport cost
  11. I’d exactly the same predicament a year ago You also need to be sure that you have the sil agreement in place I was told that me was felling a couple of dozen very large trees was fine Removing the slates and roof off a building we intended to demolish was also fine Both replies were the same regarding a breach Harvey machinery on the plot would be considered a breach For anything other than bore hole testing They all seem to have there different rules But it would be well worth asking the question
  12. Keep it a simple as possible You will have to make a few alterations as you go The planners can get a bit hung up over and prepossessing drawings Bit BC are pretty good If something isn’t going to quite work out They are usually open to tweeks here and there
  13. That would have been handy Aldo got my timber for counter battening the i joists So hopefully I can get it pre plaster passed in the next few weeks and crack on with the boarding and dabbing I’m determine to have a week off and skim the lot out Should look a lot different once skimed
  14. Agreed It’s very tough getting decent people I’ve very good friends who are both Heating engineer and a Electrician Both do a few hours when they can But most is left to me at weekends and evenings Its been a bit of a slog Though my mate has promised to do the boiler and cylinder I’m in a funny position with both They are reluctant to charge me But I can’t have them giving up paying work to help me I could really do to take a couple of weeks off work But I’m also busy with that plus we need the money coming in to finish the build Should be better once the weather warms up a bit
  15. Thanks She’s only eight and half stone But strong Back on the plumbing tomorrow’

  17. Cheers Nick Yes 340 Boards 70 drywall adhesive it will take me ten days to get it all boarded on my Is Though my wife has offered to mix
  18. Yep just me and my better half
  19. Hoping to start plasterboarding in three weeks If I ever get the plumbing finished Got to get this lot in this afternoon Hope the weather holds
  20. It’s barmy sometimes you see them going round all the skirtings with the blue foam Then it’s air tested Followibg day the carpet fitter pulls it all out to get his carpets down Resulting in a draft house that’s scraped through an air test
  21. It’s true there is very little you can do about it when buying a mass produced home If the tester give the builder a hard time They will simply use another company But there is plenty that we can all do Making it clear to your plastering contracted that you exspect solid band of adhesive to all perimeters including window and around all switches and sockets reveals and under cils its very easy to check afterwards Any decent contractor won’t have a problem taking a few photos Or in the case of timber frame a thin bead of gyproc silicon on the perimeter and around sockets works well
  22. If the trades do there job properly you shouldn’t need to use foam When I start plastering mine in a few weeks I’ll put some pictures on Showing that there is no need for foam
  23. Regarding sound proofing the benefits are massive You could hang an independent mf cieling for not a lot of money Far superior job to any kind of joist Financrs permitting
