Foaming up is your best option You can always cut it off with a saw and foil tape it Cutting 30 mil rips would be difficult to keep the foil on

I wouldn’t worry Jilly It won’t even get a mention from BC Planners are to short staffed to get involved The lady we bought our first plot off Her house is listed She wanted me to fit Ally bifolds at the back of her house but planners wanted them replacing with timber Like for like with the rotten French doors that have only lasted ten years She just applied for Ally doors and lantern No problem as long as they are round the back of the house
-
Our friends finished there self build this summer and decided not to fit vents Bc flagged it But still signed off We will do the same It’s nonsense making your home airtight and having trickle vents That are drafty even when closed First thing the air test guy did was tape them up How can it be a true assessment
-
In England You don’t need trickle vents in an extension Sorry if this has already been answered

Poorly supported chimney stack struggling to get quotes
nod replied to d87francis's topic in General Construction Issues
No problem just make sure they are a vat registered company and provide a detailed quote Detailing what they are going to do and materials to be used I do lots of these each year Mainly for insurance companies It will help you with your negotiations if you have a quote on letter headed paper with the company number etc I wouldn’t bring in a Structual engineer at this stage It’s pretty obvious what was started previously needs finishing and the rest of the chimney removing and the leaks around it sorted at the same time Good luck with your purchase -
Poorly supported chimney stack struggling to get quotes
nod replied to d87francis's topic in General Construction Issues
Yes The problem you have is that you are in the process of buying Most will assume that there quote will be used as part of a negotiation and never here from you again Offer to pay for a builder to come out and do a full written quote usually about £100-150 Also the sellers are more likely to negotiate with a written quote -
Non-slip tiles? Non-slip treatment? What is the solution?
nod replied to Garald's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
There are some great none slip tiles out there Look under pool areas Unglazed are fine in wet areas But they will need to be sealed Your tiler will seal prior to grouting or laying and then again a week or two afterwards As with Builders Merchants Reps rarely know much about the products they sell -

We have a local independent BM Probably one of the largest independents Over 200 staff across two sites They extended and took lots of extra staff after the pandemic Hopefully they will be ok Far better service than the big boys -

Tough times ahead Though no sign of the the sites slowing yet So much pre Covid contracts to complete We’ve a large hotel to start in Cumbria after Christmas That was cancelled nearly three years ago Though I’m not sure how they will staff it There will be lots of jobbers floating about looking for work -
I enquires about the lead for our roof on Friday All four places that I’ve accounts with have bombarded me with calls Yesterday and today All for a 2 k order How things have changed Six months ago I’d have been lucky to get four quotes As a self builder it’s tempting to put all your eggs in one basket But it’s better if the reps realize that you are shopping around Even a commodity like lead varies ing pricev Only £28.59 per 6 meter roll But x it by ten and it’s a nice saving for the sake of four phone calls Im a long way off tiles But buy on a daily basis Even tiles and adhesive have come down in price The diy market has disappeared over night
