  1. They are very good at that. I’m really sorry but I can’t recommend anyone. I can let you know who to avoid though.
  2. I don't think it's backwards but it can be hard work. Yes kitchens and bathrooms are much easier to source. It must be much easier now. My son works in Big Matt at Ta Qali. There was nothing like that there back in the day.
  3. Sailchick. Well done you ! It’s good to see somebody making an obvious change. I visit Malta about 5 times a year and am amazed that not much has been updated in construction. can I ask what insulation you have between your outer skin and inner skin of blocks ? When I finished my shell there back in the 90’s there were no flat packed kitchens available. It took 2 and a half years for my local carpenter to build the kitchen.
  4. Openreach have told me that the FTTP cable MUST enter the house from the outside.
  5. I used to live in Malta and my house was typical of Maltese builds. Zero insulation, thick limestone walls and yes I had a solar collector for heating the hot water. It was red hot in Summer and luke warm in winter so exactly the opposite of what we needed. We had no heating and survived the winters with Gas heaters and extra clothing. Maltas main problem is that it gets so humid in winter and at 9 degrees in winter it feels bloody freezing inside the houses. I remember reading the soggy newspaper on the terrace in the sunshine. These days many people have air to air heating my son has about 6 of the things around his house and I would hate to see his electric bill. He is due to carry out some major refurbs over the next few years so I will be interested to see how you get on.
  6. even my nads wouldn't reach that
  7. On the same different subject I was told by one solicitor it would cost between £4 and £6k to split my plot and sell to a friend. Another solicitor has quoted £1k for the same job.
  8. If it has been laid correctly with slurry primer it will be an interesting experiment to try and lift it off the mortar bed. Removing the sub base to increase the fall would be equally interesting. I'd try and lift the slab first by inserting a bolster between the slab and the mortar bed.
  9. Are you in a radon zone ?
  10. Or a chuck adaptor. I find they often come in handy.
  11. I’d go with the sds. No hammer
  12. They mean that the wall plate should have had a halving joint in it and not have 2 pieces butted up to each other.
  13. The decorator must think he’s won the lottery.
  14. A customer of mine is off to China next week to nail down an order for several hundred MVHR units rebranded with his company details on them. He says everyone else is doing it so why not him ?
  15. Thanks very much for taking time to do this @ETC. That looks better. What’s that coming out of the top right IC ? OSVP ?
  16. Thanks Mr P for your reply. Good point about shortening the run by going under the stairs. I wouldn’t save a manhole however as the drainage needs to change direction at the front of the house. A gully outside the kitchen is a good thought and it could take the ASHP condense as well but again I’d need the manhole at the corner for the drain from the garden room.
  17. You are doing well so far. Far better than me. I look forward to watching your progress.
  18. Hi all, As I continue to plan during my wait for my bat licence I was looking at drainage and came up with this design. One of the groundworkers I spoke to suggested picking up the S&VP in the living room in line with the one in the store and then extending the run to the RHS of the building then to the garden room. I thought that S&VP's had to come down to a rest bend which would make a connection at the S&VP in the store impractical. Also would I need a connection for the condense from the ASHP ? Also maybe I could run the waste from the Utility beneath the stairs into a stub stack in the WC and save a manhole. ?? Any thoughts ? Drainage Rev C.pdf
  19. I'd drill and bolt if you can or tek screw. We used to shot fire to steels but not anymore due to the nails corroding and breaking off. Pity really because it was fast and made the site managers jump out of their skin if they were hovering around us.
  20. I’m sure I have seen some sort of shoe in the past that hangs down off a beam. Have you spoken to the beam manufacturers ? If not I’m sure one could be made. Or … timber?
  21. Thanks Thats a good deal better than mine. I'll keep knocking doors.
  22. Sorry ( can't resist) I only watched the first 13 minutes and I was sure I had seen these guys in action before. In Wome I think it was.
  23. Does anyone have any recent cemfloor quotes ? I've just had a supply and fix quote in for £6 k for 16.65 m3 seems a tad high to me at £360 per m3 This is varied between 100 mm fill and 75 mm but mainly 75 mm Has anyone ordered direct and done it themselves ?
