1 ready for UFH 1 to go. UFH going in on the first plot tomorrow and Sunday 🙄🙄 No church this week.

My brickie is cheap 😀. The cost of the materials is the issue a trench block is way more than 2 x 7 kn blocks. I know you save on cavity fill but you also lose a bit of leg room for half of the wall. I prefer to put 1 course of both skins of blocks down then cavity fill with a trough and then level the ground out up to the blocks to make it easier for my next 2 coursing brick courses up to B & B

Update….beam and insulated block time. I didn’t know what time they were coming so I went alone and planned to wait there and unload them when they arrived and go and catch up on paid work. The weather wasn’t good so I opted to stay and move the beams around on my Tod. Not a bad day in the end but I was ready for a pint when I got home. Today was a bit slow. I think the transmitter is more than 35 miles away but the free view website says that the signal is good. I’ll ask the neighbours once I’ve stopped being a solo beam and block installer. 😜

Most of the houses surrounding my plot have no aerials. I thought that they must have loft aerials. I doubt if they all have cable.

But no stock ! I ordered all the drainage 10 days ago and they say they haven’t delivered due to ‘some items being on back order’ namely 110 mm UG pipe, 30, 45 and 90 deg bends and several other items that I can’t remember. Awful service. Floor beams arriving Tuesday

Evening all. This morning before I got to site my mixer ‘jumped off its stand’ claims my labourer and the drive belt snapped. Bad timing as today was supposed to be the last day on substructure brickwork and my floor beams are due on Tuesday. I’ve ordered a new belt but can’t find any literature anywhere on how to change it. Im guessing I’ll need to tension it when it’s fitted but couldn’t see how to do it. Has anyone had to do this and can help out ?

My 5 bat surveys were £800 plus Vat each. NEVER LEAVE THEM UNSUPERVISED. They love talking about bats so get yourself and some friends together for a one to one with each ecologist during the surveys. Total cost with an EPS license was around £ 8k it’s a scam. At the end of the day not one single constipated bat was found.

Plus 1 for this. I’ve seen it many times too. It normally happens a week or so after the groundworkers have tracked next to your walls before cavity filling them. Also happens a day before you smash your shins on short standards a minute after the ladder guard has tried to throw you and your tools off the scaffold.

Brickwork tomorrow / Weds depending on when everything arrives on site. Wellies are at the ready.

I had the same faff. I did manage to demolish in July though after my 5th Bat survey and 2nd nesting bird survey. As for an ecologist you can trust ... after speaking to many people about this it seems that none are trustworthy. Trust is good, checking is better. From my experience not many ecologists want to do dawn surveys and prefer the dusk ones. I had to have a survey in August so the may and July bit is not accurate for England but things may be different in Scotland.

Hi everyone, Just a query on what brand of tape to use to join DPM to DPM on top of a beam and insulated block floor. The areas are larger than 4 m so I need to join the DPM in places This is basically just a separating layer between the EPS blocks and the Cemfloor topping but the warranty guy today said that he wants to see the DPM taped at the joins which is fair enough. I have used some poor quality double sided tape in the past so was looking for a product that someone can recommend.

when Eurocell delivered the products ordered from building plastics online they told me to get in touch with my local depot to get better prices. I've not needed anything since but will give it a go next time.

Also try building plastics online. I had a good deal from them last week. It was delivered by eurocell.

That is sound advice.
