They run pretty cool compared to halogen, which run at ~200oC, so are not that problematic with wool insulation. Just push it up and away prior to fitting and job done.

Plenty of room to go in the attic if you'd rather keep the cupboards for clothes / storage etc. That's the last horizontal UVC, but there's no HZ TS's

What litres per min are you getting at 38/40o J ?

Very encouraging to hear they're following demand / varying solutions so quickly. My sales pitch may soon be swaying to off grid PV and Sunamps / stacks. I'll be watching this intently and may soon break radio silence with them myself for the tech side.
-
Also what will the dhw demand be like?

Will it be a cold or warm roof over the sleeping quarters? I've done a couple of horizontal uvc's but you'll also ( with an uvc ) need a small buffer for the space heating to compliment the oil boiler. What vertical space do you have in the attic at the internal ridge point? Eg max height to stand a 700mm dia cylinder and if desirable it would need to be over an internal wall, ideally where two intersect.

Do you have the link to that dave? I may consider an off grid 2kw for the shed roof with space to add more later. As I'll then be generating a good bit of excess it'll get dumped into a big DIY thermal store to pre heat the cold supply to my Combi.

Solar PV - electricity bill reduction

If you're surrounded by micro generation, have you checked your local grid voltage at the supply head? You might find that peak output will tip you over the acceptable voltage margin and shut the inverter down ( due to all the neighbouring systems going flat out too ). If that were the case then you'd have to do the maths as to how much export you're going to be doing, and maybe that would sway you to an off grid system just to offset your own consumption with reduced capital expenditure. -
oh well. Why the hell do they show on the posted comments then apple probably want MORE money off me to allow that.

thermocouple or something like that
Nickfromwales replied to Tennentslager's topic in Kitchen & Household Appliances
Gas burning appliances which are dependant on electricity usually have a failsafe which extinguishes the flame upon power being removed. Eg, no gas safety device would be dependant upon mains power to operate, as that would be deemed unsafe. I'd say the thermostat is dodgy so do not use this at all until rectified. -
No truer words spoken. Just flashing my spicy coated minute steaks over in the skillet as I type this. Yum.

i literally just picked my iPhone up to say I haven't forgotten about this thread. Just it needs a proper looking at and this week has been hectic meeting a deadline for today. Just sitting down with a grolsch with the kids going nuts up the garden and the bbq is stuffed with the entire contents of old macdonalds farm........so as soon as they're all fed and darted I'll have a look and get some ideas for you just as I was enjoying a post-graft Coors, the phone went with 2 bathrooms and a kitchen, which i thought weren't coming off, and guess what.....they all asked me "how soon can you fit us in, we're ready to proceed"............ the joy of self employment ??

Operation 'can o worms' springs to mind. I'd walk away from that job as it's just not going to be time / cost effective. Try contacting them directly and see if there is an overhaul kit, but when I can buy a complete valve for £7-8 you can see why there may be a mixed response.

I just found out the iPhone / iPad smilies work here. Très bien. ????

Are they captive olive valve bodies ( a male nut on the copper rather than a female? a couple of pics of the valve body would help, in particular where the copper pipe enters it. I take it you're going to change the whole valve rather than just the heads?

Don't use brads. They're really not suitable, particularly if you intend shelving anywhere. Of course you can fix brackets to the studs, but I've found that just solar heating and cooling is enough to flex the frame and start pulling on the brads. For such a small area I'd use 40mmxNo10 part threaded wood screws and then you'll also get away with 200mm centres. The face of osb disintegrates quite a bit when struck by a nail gun hammer so you lose a bit of purchase there too, too much imho to use brads. Ideally they would need to be a min of ring shanks as brads are bright and have very little hold force.

I'm flat out jealous and it looks the mutts nuts to me. A nice little retreat with that decked area. A good place to hide, but then again so is the whole build.

£2.5k for 2 units does make them quite attractive. That's apparently around the equivalent of a 360ltr 'wet' TS. Be interesting to find out how much, exactly. What are the possible heat inputs with a 4-cell ? Still only direct electric?

Adding a single panel and micro inverter on the QT?
Nickfromwales replied to Jeremy Harris's topic in Photovoltaics (PV)
If the purpose is just to move air ( assumption ) then why not devise an alternative? i don't quite understand the criteria you're working to, sorry. -

The pipes will go in the eave spaces. Couldn't be easier. Can't understand why they didn't do this for the wiring tbh. If it wasn't a new build I'd say not to get too panicked about it as I've seen much worse, but as it's a new build then you have warranty and BCO issues so will need to go by the book. Have you / sister paid any money out for the electrical, work yet?
