Itās an additive to prevent water freezing in an ASHP installation. Im struggling to see what would be sticky, that is leaking from the pump spindle.

Yup. Best get the horse and the cart the right way around! -
250mm insulation with 250mm concrete over it? EPS insulation? Then it looks like much thicker ring / intermediate beams too.

Unlimited hot water with 4 bathrooms - is it possible?
Nickfromwales replied to Indy's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
Depends on how far you let it drop before you catch it and start regenerating. This is referred to as ārecoveryā time btw. If itās from cold mains from the street cold, thereās a huge amount of lifting that needs doing. If itās from say 45° and back up, thereās a significant reduction in recovery time. This is why a lot of modern, larger UVCās have a high and a low pocket for the temp sensors, as well as a standard socket for the generic cylinder stat. Means you have options to take better control over this in more demanding situations. -
Thatās leaking from the centre spindle, and the sticky goop may be Glycol? Is this heated by a boiler or a heat pump? The UPM3 is a very well regarded pump in the industry, so may just be a āFridayā unit, or has been damaged by misadventure?

How much insulation have they proposed under the slab?

UFH Mixing Valve advice on Air Source Heat Pump set up
Nickfromwales replied to MorganP's topic in Underfloor Heating
10mm pipes, and suspended / floating wooden floors? Have you any idea how the UFH was installed? In a pug / biscuit mix of sand & cement, or in aluminium spreader plates, or an overlay system (a-la Wunda)? Temp looks high, on the red (flow) side, so assume that the flow pipes are hot? Looks like 10-15 degrees differential, so youāre inputting heat into the floor, so more info please! -
And why are you pushing back? Lack of head height?

What ICF product / system are you considering atm?

Integrated or Non Integrated, that is the question?
Nickfromwales replied to Duncan62's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
100%. A true monoblock should be ready to rock and roll out of the box. Still very impressed with Panasonics J series stuff for the money. Crazy quiet and just a joy for its plug & play simplicity. -

Yup. Itās doing an automatic āpurgeā of the air. One of WB more annoying features as when we were all tired and fed up after fitting the bastard things we had to wait for āitā to ādecideā when we could go home lol. Sit and wait. Wonāt be long ! -
Great perspective, thanks.

For wool yes, not heard of issues with EPS beads?
-
Spend the money blowing the cavities full of bonded beads. Very slim returns vs the time / money / disruption, and trying to make it look like it hasnāt been done. Of EWI isnāt done meticulously then youāll be worse off than you are now. Lots of council done dwellings now complaining about huge damp issue; black walls / wallpaper peeling away etc. This is just not a candidate for a readily priced / achieved EWI installation, which you need to be able to justify costs vs ROI.

Pointless putting the solar in the shade?! Plusā¦. I was curious. š§. So āthereā. -
If it freezes, the joints all pop off everywhere and it loses pressure, ergo, it wonāt start back up due to it then locking out.

Nickfromwales replied to LLL's topic in General Plumbing
Yup. š. Put some jointing compound on the faces that meet together of the two parts, and a little on the threads. Joints should tighten smoothly, and not squeak like brass on brass does when dry. Iād drain down and take your time to do the repair. Prob only adds 2-3 hrs more messing around but a more relaxed job then -
Zehnder Q350 + ComfoPost CW12
Nickfromwales replied to BartW's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
For completeness, I wouldn't go for the Comfopost as it's a basic item in a very pretty box. Simple and effective options are out there, for far less money.
