  1. Are you thinking of laying the modules flat? This may impair their performance.
  2. This is the whole point I am making. It is easy to heat anything up, just pump energy into it. Don't matter where the energy comes from, or what form, the definition of energy does not change. What gets difficult is doing that is a manner that meets all the 'comfort' levels. There is not an SI unit for comfort.
  3. That is purely a case of having a powerful heating system. This is about careful and sensible design from the start. And before you know it, people will tell you all they know about 'thermal mass'.
  4. Right. So like SIPs but without the structural element.
  5. Tried to Google this with no luck. Do you me CLT, cross laminated timber? As for the prices, if that is important, don't self build.
  6. If a company says you can have a 20% discount (the VAT), I automatically assume that the price has already gone up and they are still going to spend all my money.
  7. Can glass fibres (what we used to call choppings) be put into the mix to help reduce shrinkage and the associated cracking.
  8. Not a term used these days, which is a shame as it was very clear what it meant (even if some ply that was stamped with it did not comply). "WBP stands for “Water Boiled Proof”. This is an old British Standard term although people still refer to it. The new terms are EN 636-(1, 2, 3) and EN 314-2 (Class 1, 2, 3),"
  9. You can report that to Trading Standards. Not allowed to be sold unless it is over a fixed amount (can't remember what that is 2 tonne?). But the whole environmental thing is a lot more than just the moisture content.
  10. Surely that depends where you stop measuring the costs. If you take environmental costs (and people that burn timber never do) into account, you may find that there is a lot less value.
  11. No, I the sun is out and my customers have been well fed, for now. I just find it strange that the tolerances on building components is so appallingly bad, it would not be acceptable anywhere else (in catering, we generally buy by mass, not mass plus of minus 250g). The ignorance of new technique is also staggering. Guy who fitted my neighbours new windows did not understand the concept of airtighness, or MVHR. Very few of us on here can agree on the best heating system for a house, and people still talk about woodburners, a 2 million year old technology. Customers have to insist on getting what they want, then the industry needs to step up and supply it.
  12. You may struggle with that. If you cannot get water into the system fast enough, there is no way it can come out fast enough. Try calculating at 10 litre per minute for each shower. One way may be to use two cylinders, of a vented and pumped system. You may be able to use plate heat exchangers as well, they can have a reasonable flow rate and power rating.
  13. It does deliver around 200,000 houses a year. That is really a totally different thing, and is down to legislation, standards and enforcement.
  14. If Durosol made cars or boats, life would be so much better won't it. 15mm gaps FFS, what is that about.
  15. Did I not say earlier that the building industry was total crap. No wonder we can't get houses built at a reasonable price.
  16. I would not count on that, cars that were legal on emissions a few years back are now effectively banned. Can't comment on government future timetables, if I could I would write a cheque and get you all the labour and materials you wanted.
  17. @Adsibob You are in London right? Are you not concerned about the legislation changing that will ban woodburners. The currently updated legislation is pointing in that direction already.
  18. I fancied munching on a pop tart the other day, it never happened.
  19. How does that compare to what you are currently paying? Too true. The testing method was completely different. The manufactures set there own methodology and it was rejected. Just remember, you cannot fool nature.
  20. Would hardly be a Cornish Breakfast without it. Stop doing Vegan Breakfast would be much more environmentally friendly.
  21. It is Thermal Conductivity Value you need to find. U Value is thickness and area specific. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-value_(insulation) This may be useful. https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/heat-loss-transmission-d_748.html
  22. Many all electric flats are in E7. Get a video of the meter and see if it is cycling through different price bands (some meters need buttons pressed).
  23. The price is low enough, but the cost of burning toast is very high. Sets the alarms off and you have to clear out 50 diners. Fitting a better alarm system was a higher price, but much lower cost, so better value.
  24. There is price, cost and value. You can vary them all as much as you like and still burn the toast.
