  1. If they are so brilliant, why have I never seen any at work. Much easier, quicker and less energy intensive ways to soften tough grizzle.
  2. By 'modern', you mean the kind that most of us have bought for the last 25 years.
  3. Was having this conversation with someone I know yesterday. They are going to fort out a £1000ish on some 'smart' panel heaters. I showed them a A2AHP and the answer was. "but we want then radiators on the wall under the windows". Pointed out that the heat emitters, which don't look so dissimilar to what they wanted, can be fitted in the same place. There reply "we only need to get an electrician in, not a plumber". They also think that an oil filled electric radiator uses less energy as it stays warm after it is switched off. Why are people, who had the same school education as most of us, allowed to mingle in society and comment on things they know nothing about, and when challenged, get more stubborn.
  4. Must have been putting too much water in then.
  5. Yes, a Classics Graduate. Not a (expletive deleted)ing clue about even basic science.
  6. Do you have a link to one please?
  7. You can always tell when they are saying porkies, their lips move.
  8. Just seen this. This is a much greater day rate than I pay to EDF on a standard variable, 3 monthly billing supply. Think I am paying 20p night and 35p day. Have a look at that first.
  9. I don't think that inverter is suitable to be connected to the grid supply. You also have to inform your DNO that you are connecting a generation set to their supply. You are on the right track though, just not the right equipment.
  10. Was thinking something more active. Did something similar for my dissertation. New thread I think.
  11. I am at work at the moment, but I have been draughtproofing more at the moment. What sort of construction is your house? If a draught is coming out of the skirting, it may be bypassing insulation, you don't want that happening. But nor do you want condensation.
  12. How timely. I just drive past a large, new, cold store, was wondering if there was merit in secondary cooling of the exterior. Goes in with something that @JohnMo asked about evaporation losses from walls (still not looked into it). Maybe a new thread when the sun sets for winter, and the rain is lashing down.
  13. Bedroom full of spare pussy, threw one out the window and it shut on my flower bed.
  14. Was going to comment, but most on here don't get the irony of it all. Told you about waking up with your solution on your chest. Now stop it before you get caught.
  15. Why not make your own MVHR unit. I did. Basically just a simple plate with controlled airflow either side. Then pump air through it. Greater the area, and you will have about 80m² of area, the more power can be transferred. The room inlet and outlet vents can be hidden in shadow gaps in the wall. Also has the advantage that any ceiling lighting, and you are having a stupid amount of lighting (get your eyes checked for cataracts, I did, and now only use a 3W LED in an 18m² room) puts the thermal energy directly into the heat exchanger.
  16. Seems quite a lot at the original 200 quid a week. I assume they have gas as well, so can't understand why they would be buying in so much. Got a 4.5 rating and on TripAdvisor, but only 6 reviews. So one of their friends was not impressed.
  17. No me, so I am keeping the word 'hideous' for another day. Try High Wycombe for furniture. It is the furniture capital of the world.
  18. I think I am slowly seeing where you are coming from now. You can calculate the fan power to move 600 m3.h-1 here. https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/fans-efficiency-power-consumption-d_197.html That will be your energy input. Then if you know the range of heating and cooling ∆Ts, you can work out the energy transferred at your flow rates. CoP is not the usual term used in the UK for forced air systems, but no reason it should not be used.
  19. If we want to have a government step in and help, we will just have to raise taxes. So what is LT suggesting; Reduced personal taxes. That is more to do about winning Tory party members than any attempt at reducing household outgoings. I just hope that the voting Tory party members can see though the nonsense. Trouble for them is, they probably won't vote for RS. I have made myself a cheap, screw on, secondary glazing frame. Stop window draughts (or is it drafts) and add a bit more thermal resistance. Shall posh it up a bit more for the living room.
  20. 2 strokes always sound as if something is broken and flapping about.
  21. I found the air filter had the biggest influence on fuel economy. 10k miles and it drops 10‰ at least. Regular oil changes as well.
  22. If I had know I would have taken the week off and cadged a ride. Quite fancy a few days up your way.
  23. Welcome. This peculiar damp problem, it may be condensation. If you are fitting UFH, how much insulation can you get under it?
