We have a freestanding "boat" bath which I got as a "second" from a chap on eBay 12 years ago. Also acrylic and it's been great.

Before buying a bath I recommend sitting in it if you can. Some makes are strangely shapped (too narrow or even too long so you keep sliding down).

We have an acrylic bath not too disimilar to that.  I must admit to being a fan of pressed steel and enameled baths, but they seem quite rare now. Would not want cast iron again (unless you like sitting down and getting a cold bottom)

I have one acrylic bath and one steel. I actually prefer sitting in the steel one but the acrylic one is ok.

We have a silestone and a acrylic

Silestone freestanding looks great

Weve not used it yet  but it would be a nightmare to keep clean

Definitely acrylic for practicality

Cheers all.

Sounds like acrylic, then.

What was it Norman Lamont sang in the shower whilst the economy was evaporating? Just so I'm ready for the shop...

for those of you who like to wallow for hours in the bath

I,m suprised no one  seems offers a bath with UFH piping wrapped around it  and bonded to the grp +then spray foam on top of it  to keep heat going inwards

+ a temp control to keep bath water up to temp all day long if you wanted

my first wife was one of those and I often planned how easy  it would be to even as a retro fit .

it could also be the bathroom heater /towel rail  the rest of the time ?

I'm also a fan of enamelled steel baths, and fitted one in our second bathroom.  It would look to be pretty easy to bond one of those electric underfloor heating mats, or perhaps one of the silicon sealed mirror heating mats, to the underside of the bath, as a way of keeping it warm.

I,m suprised the victorians with their love of cast iron didn,t make such a thing

or italians --cast a highly polished alluminim one   like they do the radiators  or even SS to go with the ultra modern designer bathroom

simple to tig weld ss piping to back of it

I was always a fan of steel baths, did not like “plastic”, however I am completely converted with my new acrylic slipper bath which is super deep and appears to stay warm.

Had one like that too it was great. Agree with the suggestion sitting in before you buy if you can.  They vary a lot.

Yes, but given that efh mats around a bath would put out perhaps 250-300w, will that do it?

Looking at the numbers ... maybe.

I am also wondering about a slipper bath.

Then I can pretend to be Clint Eastwood and murder people who barge in.

GBU.

But I confused a Clint film with Clint himself in the scene.

Just imagine how different it would have all been for Clint had they had your roof window in 1976 .. see 2:55
