Thanks to @JFDIY for the stainless dome nuts. On loose for now after cutting the studs down:

Aerial mounting plate on loose. I'll change the bolts for stainless button heads later:

I've seen a lot worse for sale made by a pro.

Thanks. It's just the longevity of the chosen mix concerns me.

Next then to rub down the steel post, paint, fill the gaps where it comes through the brickwork, etc.

those dewalt angle drives are great aren't they?

Yep, haven't managed to kill it yet and I really give it some. Looking a bit worn round the edges but it keeps going.

I once bought a Parkside copy that fell apart on its first outing

The only other DeWalt thing that I like is the bfo 1/2" router here.

Thanks. I'm picking this up later locally though, mainly as it says it's "buff" coloured. (The Everbuild stuff is pretty good imo as Sika bought them):

With the threat of rain I rushed tidying the post up...and it shows.

Originally there was something "red" on the bare steel post. I want to say red oxide but I don't think it was. I gave it a coat of something grey since then. So a quick sand with 80 grit and wipe with white spirit:

Then Pro Cote Cold Galv Spray from T'station.

It's reacted but not sure whether with the red or grey...

Half wondering whether to let this dry then take it all off with a cup brush back to bare metal and etch prime?

(No I don't shop in Waitrose btw).

If you wouldn't mind I'll take those nuts off you. PM me if you would with the cost and p&p.

As for washers I'll probably do something a bit funky/shaped, in sympathy with the faux hinges I'll have water or laser cut. A kind soul on another forum has just converted this photo of these faux hinges into a DXF for me.

(Think I've said before they're in the church we got married in).

Cheers.

I like that touch. Church you got married in.

Spent a bit more time prepping the other post top. Cup brush in the grinder. Difficult getting in round the back/underneath so those bits less than perfect. Couldn't get right in either where the post goes into the pillar:

Cleaning down with Lidl's finest thinners and the rag just kept coming up grey!

Finish is tbh a lot better than the first.

I saved the beer until I'd finished this time...

I'm going to roller paint the primed steel with Bedec Barn Paint i.e the same as what's on the gate. Reckon I'll end up stripping and redoing that first one this afternoon.

I really must remake these "temporary" rollers I fitted. They squeal like a piggy on occasion. Just some reinforced hose "tyres", on some nylon, on stainless bolts. One side are just worn flat now!

The temporary "plates" are offcuts of Buffalo board (with a groove filed in for the box seam). I did way back have some 20mm st/st squares plasma cut for these but the sides are so out of square I never bothered using them. Need to square them up.

Tbh the gate only runs on the left hand pair and the hose "tyres" on those are worn flat. I guess where they stopped rolling. Maybe the nylon has swelled around the bolt?

I can't decide whether or not to put some small, circa 100mm wide downlighters , on the face of those stubby grey posts that "hook" over the gate

The laurel on the right is probably going:

Thinking something like this:

or

IMG_20210623_221312.jpg.92de241ebfecb2a3f97a0df3b8ef7c83.jpg

The posts will be painted black eventually.

If so I need to drill a couple more holes in the steel box and thread some more flexible conduit down in each before I put the cap stone on.

Thinking run the conduit and decide on the lights later.

Oh and Cctv obviously with night vision ( so you can see all the goings on … )

Can't remember exactly what I've got running to the pillar underground...

- 2.5mm2 3-core swa

- Duct grade Cat-6

- A multi-core screened cable for luck...can't remember the spec.
