Not quite.. two thinner wedges banged in. One on each side!
-
@JIH No didn't increase the thickness because of the shower, the bathroom backs on to that one, and although the Hep20 fittings are fatter than copper, they easily fit in the partition walls. All of our toilets are Geberits so had to build out the framework to accommodate the frame and cistern.

I also fitted dwangs to hold the pipes securely in place for the showers, taps and basins with the spacing exact for the fittings. I used hep20 elbows with copper tails for the fittings. The dwangs are great when you come to screw in the fittings as you don't need any kind of plug, screws in wood hold everything securely. We also made sure that we had dwangs in place for the basins, etc., saves so much time at the end of the build. We have just been fitting out two of our wetrooms, it's been really straightforward.

I did all the first fix plumbing in Hep20, and I've never done any plumbing before. We have a manifold system and it really is pretty easy. Watch a few of the videos and mine this site. Lots of information. I think the trickiest part was arranging the runs in the ceiling void. As we have four bathroom/en suites and single pipes to each fitting I tried to avoid tangling the pipes and they need supporting properly at regular intervals. Also if you have posi joists the metal edges can be quite sharp so need to take care when pulling the pipe through. Our ceiling above the manifolds looked like Clapham Junction!

This is not an easy post to write.....

This is really bad news. Don't know if this helps but we got our mortgage on the current house, interest only repayment, with Monmouthshire. They are fully aware that we are building a new house and will repay the mortgage when we sell without any penalty. We also have a few items left from our build, will PM you.- 62 replies

They hold open and stay in position just fine.

I love our Internorm windows. All are tilt and turn. Very high quality product. Our windows are not particularly large but still the main downside is that if you want a blind or curtains then the windows come out beyond the reveal when they are wide open and get in the way, but if you only use the tilt option this isn't a problem. Upside is that they're really easy to clean.

Knauf aquapanel under Karndean floor
JanetE replied to JanetE's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
@TheMitchells I've been looking around and Quick Step also do a vinyl laminate floor which is thicker than the Livyn. Have seen this laid and it looks really nice. They do a range that are suitable for bathrooms but only in wood effect. So you may want to take a look. -

JanetE replied to JanetE's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
The main issue that I can see with this Livyn vinyl is that the floor needs to be really flat. Any slight irregularities will show through. They do an underlay for it but it's really thin so will not mask any unevenness. -

Well our tiler said he uses 6mm cement board under tiles. He's very experienced so that's the way I would go. Our bathroom is a similar size to yours and we've decided to go with the Livyn vinyl interlocking tiles having looked at the samples. Much easier and hassle free of you're laying them yourselves. -
This is exactly what we have, with no intention of having gas. It will run all of our UFH.

@Ferdinand I've been looking around for the uniclic and Floorbay seems to be pretty cheap, most comes out at £23 excluding vat.

This is the link for the loose lay Karndean. Which emphasises the importance of a tight fit for the tiles, but you can also use a semi sticky glue as he mentions. @GroseyI'll see if I can find the other ones for the glue down stuff later. -

JanetE replied to JanetE's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Well thanks for your help, we're doing as @Nickfromwales suggested and have returned the aquapanel. Will glue and screw down 6mm ply instead. Also, after looking at a few YouTube videos we were going to fit the Karndean ourselves. It looks a fiddly job but certainly not to hard. But we've decided to go for the loose lay Karndean instead of the glue down stuff. It would appear that the important thing about laying this is you get a really tight fit on the floor. This will be for our bathroom and total area is only about 3.7m² so shouldn't be too difficult. -
We have the Internorm aluclad upvc, triple glazed for our passivish build. Super quality and a similar price to Rational. Got them from Ecohaus SW, who were very competitive, it depends what part of the world you're in, as the price of these does seem to vary according to supplier which is why I think there are some reports of how expensive they are. Out of interest, we just had an attempted break in and the bas#ards had a real go at the French doors but didn't manage to get in, just damaged the doors with their crowbar. Ecohaus have been helpful with repair quotes, it will be interesting to see how good they look afterwards.

Just got some 6mm aquapanel for the bathroom floor and would like some advice on how to lay this. Chipboard flooring underneath. Will I need to glue the stuff down, and if so what should I use? Karndean flooring to go on top so how should I prepare the board for that. All advice gratefully received

Pulling up this thread again, I've just started waterproofing our wet rooms. We bought the AKW formers from a company called Hurlston on eBay. They were very good value and excellent quality. They are 22mm the same as the flooring. The floors we covered in 12mm marine ply so we cut the holes for the formers and re inforced underneath as per @Nickfromwales instructions and then filled these with the ply to bring them up to the same level as the finished floor, then I glued and screwed everything down. I was pretty concerned about doing all this we haven't done anything like it before. The tanking of the rooms has not been difficult, I just watched the YouTube videos and followed instructions. A bit of a messy job but very quick and easy. So really just wanted to reassure anyone considering doing this for the first time that it's a pretty straightforward job. I'm just hoping our tiler is happy with the result!

uPVC, Timber or Timber with Aluminium Windows?
JanetE replied to Lucy Murray's topic in Building Materials
@billt I also had a house that was build around the same time and refurbished the windows, the timber was in excellent condition despite being a softwood. This was because it was very slow grown, not like the softwood rubbish you get nowadays. I think it was called Deal. -
uPVC, Timber or Timber with Aluminium Windows?
JanetE replied to Lucy Murray's topic in Building Materials
I vowed never too paint another window as we have hardwood windows in our current house with glazing bars. So we went for aluclad upvc from Internorm, plenty of colours to choose from, so we have white inside and cream on the outside. We're very happy with them. -
Echo (sound) dampening options - special paints?
JanetE replied to readiescards's topic in Sound Insulation
We're going to have the same issue, we have slate floors downstairs. As I'm a bit deaf it is going to be a problem. So curtains at the long windows, rugs on the floors, a couple of tall bookcases. Have a seen rugs or fabric panels a la @Bitpipe on the walls as well!!
