  1. Two more. If I want channels such as Yesterday or Really from The Freeview set on Rocky, which is the best way? Also, can I rearrange the apps on the home screen to my liking? Cheers Ferdinand
  2. Has anyone used an impluvium (evaporating pool) like the Romans? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impluvium
  3. He will probably give you one of these: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/fees-for-planning-applications and one of these https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/574500/When_are_applications_eligible_for_a__free_go_.pdf and refer you to this: (you want paras 1..9, especially 9) http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2012/2920/contents/made *innocent face* The one that I did not know about was 'An application is made to vary the terms of a condition or to implement a planning permission without an imposed condition following the grant of planning permission.' from my second link - I still do not have chapter and verse on it, but it looks like a way that removes a condition rather than having to satisfy it (which carries a fee for the Council to agree). 4. That is Cruisin' for a 20 Year Confusin', IMO. In addition to our house being called something 'orrible that we can't get rid of, despite having solemn promises from the Council on a number of occasions over 5 years. Our neighbour has also been trying to get his address adjusted after having looked into why we get most of his Pizzas and a lot of his deliveries. It turned out that the Post Office had my 5 bedroom detached house, and his 2 bedroom detached house (built on a slice of our garden in 1988), described as a pair of flats in a single structure. No idea why. It took about 10 communications to the Post Office and 18 months to fix it. That may be why there was such utter confusion when I changed my electricity supplier. They moved next door instead, and that took a year to sort out. If you a re messing around with names to this extent, I reckon it will take more elapsed time than building it in the first place. Ferdinand
  5. Reflecting on this, it is a lie on 99.99% of occasions. (I will grant you 1 pr year where it may be true) Is there anyone who can prove that they are never going to add anything more to their house? You have to channel Hitchhiker, again: Mostly Dunbuildin' . F
  6. Yes. It will almost certainly impact the design. eg how will you support it. "By drilling holes in my nice new house after the fact in places where I had not planned to do so" is the wrong answer .
  7. Comments work right up to the last moment before the decision, as they are required to take them all into account. It is good practice to phone up a week before the end ..or visit ... and make sure there are none that you have missed. Remember you have the option to withdraw and resubmit should you feel unsure. You also get a free go for a similar project on the same site. It is also free to apply to change imposed conditions within 12 months of the grant of PP. I THINK ... you need to check thed email as it is damned complicated. You could for example wait for all the comments then withdraw it to think and I think resubmit without fees. Ferdinand
  8. Yes, but your potential pool of components shrinks, too ... so the raw costs o& the build can increase or flexibility shrink. So they tend to be more expensive etc. (Be interested to hear if that is no longer the case)
  9. Is it under the stairs? In that case it would need to be sufficiently fireproof.
  10. I have a very few (one or two) of several of the types of tile - but it is only a very few. If I need to I can find the chap, as I know where they live now. I have a putative approx. layout of one option, but I am after the general thoughts at this stage. That will be a future post. We *think* that the angled screen can be turned through 90 as the back roof angle is very close to the current side angle. I had my bathroom man in to have a look, and he confirmed that those tiles (and the angled screens) look a little costly to replace due to the various slopes involved.
  11. Child of an architect ?. The telltale is that I sometimes talk about "dwellings".
  12. Nothing except Sky News afaics. There may be purchasable options available. The interface has the feel of all modern interfaces ... you have been dropped into a maze with no map so you have to explore the content from below, though the voice interface is good. It seems to be straightforward to use and responsive, though - I would recommend it over my old Chromecast. Ferdinand
  13. This summer I need to have my upstairs bathroom refurbished. It was installed 12 yeas ago by the previous house owner, who also did the self-build addition of an upper storey to the previous bungalow. The bathroom has lots of lovely features including electric ufh, and a long crack all the way down a row of tiles. I think the room pretty much needs gutting, as the problem is probably under the floor, which is a huge pity because the fittings are so pleasant. I think, however, that I may be able to retain the wall tiles, and perhaps reuse the existing shower screen (which looks expensive to replace). The requirements are: 1 - Fix floor, replace ufh and retile. 2 - Replace wetroom area with large shower, perhaps with storage area (I really do not need a 2.6m x 1.1m shower). 3 - Add bath. 4 - Replace loo with something a little less temperamental. 5 - Replace whb with one with more space for bottles and things, possibly a vanity unit. I have a couple of months to think about this, so any comments would be very welcome. Here is the crack: My verdict on that crack is that the subfloor may have been done with 8x4 sheets of standard chipboard, rather than tongue and groove, and that moisture has got in and made the joint expand. There are also a couple of other cracks at right angles, and the wetroom area is suffering a little. Here are a few snapshots of the room, including some excellent tiling on a hipped corner. First a simplified layout and 3d: Where it fits: Inside of dormer window: Whb and towel rail: Loo (the blotches are as a result of compressing the photo): The wetroom area: As I say, this is one to chew on ... so any comments are welcome.
  14. Info as b****** f****** w******* Apple just deleted my post. 15. Wait till I get the password updated....
  16. Cheers. I have already bought the Roku for that reason, since it will be used by an 80 year old. I have however found that the enter-your-email bit is clunky, having used my long email address as the account name on the website ?. Ferdinand
  17. Sorry forgot to ask. Is that the 4K or the Express version? Cheers F
  18. A simple question, I hope .. can I watch the normal BBC1 etc TV channels live via a Roku stick or box? The information does not seem to be very consistent as to whether that can be done or not. I plan to get one to experiment, as I am about to move off Virgin, and the satellite or wired options do not seem attractive. Cheers Ferdinand
  19. At this point I can do Thu or Fri, but by Saturday I need to have a scaffold tower moved from somewhere else and in place or ready to build for the chap who will be doing my render repairs this W/e. So, maybe ?. Ferdinand
  20. I would expect the standards to be around the CE Marking scheme and therefore probably harmonised across Europe, though perhaps with a couple of wrinkles. F
  21. He should have left "white" off the plan, or added "illustrative" in a reference to the plan, somewhere. I can't see any easy way to be free with a single bound from what we have here - sorry. As @Oz07, I would not expect them to enforce - though they might refuse to rubber stamp something. F
  22. 964mm becomes even more difficult to handle - 2 man job? And may also need changes to hinges. Amongst my French windows, the 900mm one is more temperamental than the extra size would lead me to expect.
