    Hi

yah ... yeah .. but ... specific jobs and no prices mentioned. - it's the question I didn't know to ask

    Hi

Why, why, why, has this not been promoted on here. Over and over and over. I would have bought stacks of it, if I knew. There have been times I have been so scared of damage, especially after things had already been damaged. New people coming on here need to have this promoted to them. Really, (no ... R E A L L Y) How come this is the first time this has been mentioned for all the ways it can be used

    Hi

Beginning to wonder if they could be used a bit more long term. I'm really dreading having the doors etc done. I really need a long break before I tackle anything else

    Hi

Why has this stuff never been mentioned on here before. I have never heard of it. I think I'll just manage with my door curtains for now though as it is really only a couple of evening over Christmas that they are needed. Doors, architraving and skirting are in the plan for when the other sale is through and I have some cash

    Hi

I could have done that if I'd thought of it. The cardboard is stacked outside and now very wet. I have used hot melt glue to stick material up as a screen. That's been (one of) todays job

    Hi

That was kind of my plan when I moved in here in 'the summer'. However as trade after trade let me down, thing after thing went wrong an I lost my mojo for a couple of months I didn't get that luxury. Moving in as I did about a week ago I'm left with just a couple of weeks to get things sorted for Christmas. My 2 adult kids are coming for Christmas, with just my daughter staying over. Matt only lives about half a mile away. Matt's partner and her mother were also supposed to be coming but her mum broke her hip and has been in and out of hospital and won't be able to come and C is staying with her Christmas Day so it will just be the two of us. Not having doors isn't a problem for me on my own but I guess I need some sort of screen on the bathroom and the cloakroom - which opens onto the lounge, is a priority before Christmas. Other than that I really can't be bothered to do much at the moment. Friends and family seem to think I should be so excited and motivated to get on with things - They have no idea how much I just need a break and to NOT have to do anything for a while. Luckily I still have the old house until at least the middle of January. I have brought nearly everything I really need down here already but the house still looks almost liveable. There is so much still to sort and shift but this place being a good bit smaller is almost full. Still I am enjoying being down here in comfortable warmth - despite the heating not working properly and probably costing twice as much as it should as I am having to manually turn it off as the thermostat is not controlling the boiler. I have at least partly sorted it by turning the flow temperature down on the boiler itself. Happy overall but knackered ??
  8. Mine is Amica - a long established Polish company no less. I've never heard of them but they've been around since the 1950's
  9. That's not what I meant in this post. I meant that the fact that it was glass made it LOOK very delicate and easy to smash. However it really is very very controllable down to the lowest temperature. I can really just easily simmer on it or even just keep food warm. It's even better than my gas which, unless I used the smallest burner would boil rather than simmer stuff like soup. I got mine from Mark's Electrical and have found them a great company to deal with - They use their own delivery vans and people so your goods are treated with respect in transit. It cost £190, the same one is now £250 but they start at £180. It is taking a bit of getting used to. I had to buy new pans and am very disappointed that my two big casserole pans aren't magnetic and won't work, nor my wok so more new things to buy lol.
  10. I've got 3 way switching on mine with it being split level; either end of the hall and outside my bedroom (3 storey bungalow LOL). I also have a pir on it so don't need to use any of the switches. I also have 2 way switching on one of my lower ground lights to cover the first flight of stairs.

    Hi

Yep, I know all that and agree. I don't really think about it during the day, it's a minor thing really. If I choose not to have curtains (yet) that's not really their problem. I have just been and looked for it for the first time in daylight. It's not a spotlight it's a lantern with a very bright bulb and it is outside what appears to be a garage converted into a garden room/summer house or something like that. It is even possible that it is a granny annexe - which would explain the need for a light outside. A PIR would work but that would be worse - I can easily mitigate the effect of a constant light. One potentially coming on at odd times would be far more annoying. There is a small deciduous tree between me and it so, come spring, it should disappear. I need to mark where it shows above my fence and plant something my side that will screen it, it only shows a couple of foot above the fence so it shouldn't be too long before I can hide it.
  12. laughed at that because after having a gas hob forever I now have a glass induction and boy does it kook delicate
  13. stairbox gets my vote, I went basic but oak was much more reasonable than most others

    Hi

I'd ask you to come and do it for me except it's only on overnight lol. Not really sure what time it comes on as I can't see it from the lounge but I know it goes off at 7am

    Hi

If it was the idiots that complained about every delivery then I would agree. As they are just the peripherals, who added their support to a letter and left it at that, I don't feel vindictive. I doubt they are even aware of a possible issue. I am (probably) the only affected person. lol ???

    Hi

The mirror really appeals, however I suspect the light is somewhere it won't affect the occupants. Might give it a go though

    Hi

I have thought about reporting it BUT it is outside a house belonging to someone who objected to me building. Would any report definitely be anonymous? It's far brighter than the one streetlam I can see. Definitely not 'dark skies' though round here. Although, it's not bad on a clear night; on a cloudy night, the whole sky has a kind of yellow hue.
  18. Suction hook near top, inside of door with ribbon loop going over to where you want the wreath and a little 's' hook or more ribbon for the wreath itself. Less likely to fall off if hook on inside

    Hi

When I open my eyes in the morning ... the box is there because some bozo has a floodlight set to come on at dusk and stay on all night.
  20. Suppliers as others have said except you can't go direct to Openreach, they will only take jobs from service providers. Prices vary as to how much needs doing and who your supplier is - I paid £380 for gas and £13000 for electric (supply close to me was at capacity so had to pay for about 100m of cable laying ... on a Sunday Water was about £400 and sewerage just had to pay for application and inspection as was all done on my land. In addition was all the work done my side of the boundary, they only did up to the boundary. Water and sewerage you have to pay for the enquiry. I've gone with BT for phone as I don't think it will be very straightforward and they have quoted a flat fee of £50 for supplying line. Combined with a £10 per month reduction on my current supplier I will actually be £130 better off over the 18 month contract
  21. heard that said a lot lot more about car salesmen than about the customer.

    Hi

Yep, I have everything I need down here - now. It helps that the other house is only 20 m away so if there s anything I need it's easy enough to go and get it. My son stayed last night. He brought a pizza and a bottle of fizz. Had to go back to the old house to cook the Pizza as my oven is not connected down here, but no big deal. By 3 am we had added 4 bottles of my Christmas fizz to the mix. We both slept like logs despite no curtains - and I have done very little today lol

    Hi

That's what I was wondering too

    Hi

Thanks everyone. It still doesn't feel real. I am sitting in the lounge and the friends have all just gone. I had 6 people here, including my son, helping and the place felt pretty small with all those people in but new feels plenty big enough. Although my sofas are a bit out of proportion to the space. One thing at least is working. I could get wifi just inside the door of the new house but not in the lounge. I bought a wifi repeater and it is now working fine in the lounge. Which means I should be able to connect the TV to the fire stick as I haven't yet got an aerial. I am thinking of getting a dish and going with free sat. Currently living it up with a Pot Noodle as all my dry food stuff is down here, fridge and freezer stuff still in the old place. Plates and dishes etc down here but cutlery still in the top house (apart from a couple of teaspoons,) and no fresh stuff as I tried to use it all up before moving.
