  1. I've been told that some building societies/banks ask for it.
  2. I pay about £75 for mine and the engineer admitted it's easy money
  3. https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/ofgem-publications/87259/guideelectricitydistributionconnectionspolicy.pdf So you should get some money back when they connect
  4. Finally getting the connection made next week. Got permission 3 weeks ago but the guy that's doing it has been tied up with contract work. Got a date for next Thursday and have just spent 25 minutes on hold to the Yorkshire Water to arrange the inspection. Finally get through to be told someone from the connection team will ring me back. If they've got to ring me back anyway why the *&*&*& couldn't I just email them in the first place.
  5. and good for sniffing when it all gets too much for you
  6. Not quite mastered the art of being in two places at one time yet. ... and when I do I guess at least one of me will have something better to do ?
  7. At least I know mine is going to be designed properly and optimised for my specific usage

    Hi

Stairs are the next big thing for me. Currently I can only get downstairs by going outside and round. Unlike my fit joiners who easily jump up and down (although I most admit they are not so quick by the end of the day lol)

    Hi

Milestone Moment Front door panel finally fitted - wishing I had done the same for the back door as well now. The panel is much more contemporary for a new build and as both doors can be seen it would have looked better patio doors finally fitted and open - the door to the right folds right back against the house, will need to fit some sort of restrain for it.
  11. The window fitters are more like Laurel and Hardy - the shorter one is no more than about 5' tall though with other looking very tall by comparison
  12. I love the idea of a penny floor - wonder if I could do it in the entrance hall?
  13. Will put some on later when everything is looking good. Still got a drive full of van and workers everywhere
  14. The saga continues. The doors arrived today. Fitters here nice and early 8.30 great. Frames fitted and looking good ... bu.u.u.u.u.u.u.u.t the glass was the wrong size. Just arrived back at 11,15 - turns out they brought the glass from the previous doors (the wrong ones) they now have the correct glass (I hope) fitting it now. My house should be watertight by the end of the day. ?? Joinery also currently happening. I now have stud walls and ceilings in the entry level. Things are coming together finally Yay!
  15. Because , unlike my builders, you will not have access to a garage full of customer tools that you can appropriate at will
  16. http://cil.quod.com/ Can't confirm it's up to date but it is certainly right for Barnsley
  17. The answer to that (at least I have found from my tiny plastic tool storage shed) is to leave nothing but crap in it for the first few months. Secure it with something that won't damage the container when it is removed wrongly. Find it open once or twice a week for a month or so. Then another couple of times over the next 6 months, you could then leave the crown jewels in there. (Admittedly it's not big enough to store more than a few basic garden tools and bird feed) But, after the first 6 months, it hasn't been touched for about 6 years or more now.
  18. That wasn't the word I would have chosen at various stages (cross posted with newhome - with similar sentiments )
  19. After the incident with the sprinkler and the postman ... Joyce, the local spinster decided that ...
