  1. For the inner bathroom a light tunnel or solar tube works well, we had one in a previous house to light an otherwise dark landing and it worked well. That revised layout flows a lot better.
  2. Hi and welcome. Lots to work out in due course. But I will start with if you build with enough insulation and air tightness, you won't need heating upstairs.
  3. Re submit planning for one house and the mobile home shown on the plans as temporary accommodation for the build and to be retained. If it is all one plot as far as planning is concerned then keeping a caravan in your garden is permitted development. The fact it has planning at the moment as 2 dwellings is what is scuppering the plan as the other plot is not part of your garden so you can't have a caravan there as permitted development.
  4. The only way I solved whether mine was getting enough flow rate or not was to fit an in line flow meter. If you are not hearing any noise, it could be the pump is seized, but the Wilo pumps are one of the quietest pumps available.
  5. No trickle vents so how do you KNOW you it is "well ventilated"?

I make it clear I charge by the hour. So would you rather pay me at an electricians rate per hour to move furniture, or would you rather move it yourself and pay me less? Simple question.
  7. If that is ALL the insulation you are fitting on a (assumed) un insulated floor, then the electric UFH will be very ineffective and very expensive to heat as a huge proportion of the electricity used will just be heating the under floor space. Most people consider a minimum of 100mm thick PIR type insulation to be required. And in any event electric UFH is probably the most expensive way to heat a room, and no means to repair a fault in the heating mat if one occurs.
  8. At probably £200 per pump out, it would soon be cheaper to do it properly.
  9. Hi and welcome, you are in good company.
  10. Looks like the cheap gold plating has failed. Wrap the replacement in self amalgamating tape, and honestly a bit of vaseline smeared on the connector pins before engaging keeps water out. (I do this on boat connections)
  11. Just watched it, (rarely watch commercial television live) Under budget, under time and no major problems. Kevin was having to dig deep to find any tiny little problem to highlight no matter how small. A model of just how to do a self build, and a great result. Of course it only went so well because of all the expert advice and encouragement from Buildhub.
  12. This seems popular according to google https://www.diy.com/departments/nature-calls-composting-toilet/5060542053747_BQ.prd
  13. Why not build or buy a composing toilet so it is only grey waste water you have to deal with?
  14. This is the sort of thing most touring caravans use to collect their grey waste water and wheel it to the appropriate drain on a site.
  15. This is the Marsh portable treatment plant designed to slide under a static caravan. It will discharge grey waste water that still needs to go to a soakaway or possibly to a watercourse. https://www.theseptictankstore.co.uk/shop/marsh-portapura-m5-sewage-treatment-plant-5-person/#:~:text=Description,also perfect for glamping accommodation.
  16. That is an "aquaroll" other makes are available) for transporting fresh drinking water to a touring caravan. Nothing to to with waste.
  17. Marsh make a small "portable" treatment plant designed to slide under a caravan.
  18. He is making it into a "high integrity" CU with as you describe one way not protected by either RCD which is okay for the SWA. He needs to have the appropriate extra cables inside the CU. Some will argue if it is not supplied like that by the manufacturer then it is no good.
  19. Buy a decent amount of Kwikstage or similar system scaffold and do it yourself. It will easily sell at the end of your build, but I kept some of mine, enough to scaffold 1 wall of the house.
  20. IF you want maximum yield. But if self using and not getting paid for any export there is a big argument for a much steeper pitch, even near vertical, to get more production in winter at the expense of less than optimal production in summer, but you usually generate more than you can use in summer anyway.
  21. It would not be my choice, neither would those plastic pipe fittings be. What did you agree with him before hand?
  22. Surely if you have foundations in place, you want to stick to that footprint even if you change the interior?
  23. You get peace of mind that it is all finished to their satisfaction and they are not going to hound you or demand you change something that is non compliant etc. And it means there will be no big issues should you choose to sell. And for a lot of people it is the magic bit of paper needed to submit your VAT reclaim.
  24. Just need to close DRAX now.
  25. We have click clack and no problems. Have prevously had problems with plugs operated by some form of remote control from a lever on the tap, not least if you you need to replace the tap you have to replace the waste as well.
