  1. The weight is on the floor. My build is ICF so I inserted 4 x2 timber into the EPS bolted to the concrete core then used brackets to fix the doors
  2. You can fit door frames with brackets same as those window pictures
  3. I use a carbide tipped blade, but my blocks are pretty soft
  4. Multitool is good for this, much quicker than drilling, plus you don’t need to chisel out
  5. Yeah that’s exactly why I did mine myself. But I appreciate I am fortunate to have the time and skill to be able to do it.
  6. I fitted plenums first then cut the plasterboard so it was tight to the plenums then the plasterer plastered up to the plenum which I then cut flush to the ceiling with a multitool. No filler needed
  7. I used the BUS Grant and got a Veismann system installed for a total cost to me of £1800, the retail on the system alone would be in the region of £10k so I was well happy. The best advice I can give is to design your house so the ASHP is just the other side of the wall from the plant room. My installer said mine was the simplest install he’d done, hence the labour cost was low, and he only charged me cost on the system
  8. Well fortunately for me my floor is concrete so won’t be moving, and it is very level, I was thinking of doing floor first and covering it with Protec sheets as I agree with the possibility of it getting damaged
  9. Why’s that ? it seems most tile the floor first
  10. So which appliances can you claim the vat back on ? I’ve bought a German kitchen and installed it myself, all the appliances are hard wired in and obviously the dishwasher is plumbed in
  11. We keep it like that to deter visitors 😃
  12. Welcome from another Norfolk member
  13. Also consider Keylite
  14. Yes it’s very sticky
  15. Can you lap the new DPM up the sides to meet the old one and tape it with double sided DPM tape
  16. I think I’ll come in at around £1000 a meter maybe a little over with the landscaping and drive way, but I’ve done most of the build myself. like Nod that’s including a German kitchen and other quality stuff, so it is doable but bloody hard work
  17. Totally agree with John, there are too many terminals
  18. You are correct below DPC recommended is 1:3 thats what I used and you’d struggle to scrape it with a chisel, even when wet. being that strong it also looks dark grey even though the sand was very light in colour, but I did use Mannok Cement which is quite dark, but even with normal Portland I’d expect it to look more grey in colour than in your pictures
  19. Even 1:6 mortar should not crumble, so it might be even weaker or there’s another issue causing the crumbling
  20. That’s a lot of money, £120 an hour daylight robbery I’m not paying anywhere near that for my install. I considered doing my own install, but as I’m only paying £1800 for having a Veismann Vitocal 151 installed why would I. I suggest you get some more quotes
  21. Crikey, I’ve had my hot knife glowing red hot but the EPS did not catch light. I do find it really easy to use and it makes very little mess as the cut bits come out in large pieces. Not looking forward to rasping the outside ready for render, that’ll be messy and the neighbours won’t be happy 😃
  22. I bought the big sled as well, I used it for letting in 4 x 2 timbers and cutting out socket boxes https://hilltop-products.co.uk/kd-7x-kd-dc100-sled-and-12-blade-kit.html
  23. I fitted grommets in the boxes and used 25mm oval conduit, as per the electrician’s instructions
  24. Yeah the hilltop one is expensive but it’s very good I’ll sell it on when I’ve finished with it
  25. Chase out with an electric foam cutter https://hilltop-products.co.uk/tools-cutters-machinery/hot-knife-rope-cutters/hand-held-hot-knife-rope-cutters/hand-held-kd-7x-premium-hot-knife-foam-cutter-groover-kit-with-case-accessories-230v.html
