  1. As per your Planning passed post, if you are looking to do any of the main construction yourself have a look at Isotex from Insulhub https://insulhubuk.com/our-products/isotex/ Very similar to Durisol, but feedback says the blocks are better. Apparently these types of block have advantages over the Nudura type blocks as there is much less bracing required, they are far more DIY friendly and having all the insulation on the outside means you have a much better thermal mass internal. Feedback on the company is very good, I have had many discussions with Andy Norris the sales manager.
  2. Hi looks great. Good luck with the build. I’m awaiting the decision on our application with South Norfolk Council, we are 5 miles from Norwich. We are also planning to go down the ICF route using Isotex Blocks and an insulated raft foundation. Will be nice to see your progress
  3. Hi Keith by using the restraint straps, if you had to remove a window in the future would that then require hacking out the reveals to get to the straps ? Can you not just screw into the woodcrete part of the block and stick with silicone.
  4. Has anyone used brick slips with Durisol or Isotex ICF blocks ? The blocks are 250mm high so how do you make the window openings brick course able, standard height window openings tend to be 1350mm high but of course this wont work with the 250mm blocks So would I have to go 1500mm high, then there's the same issue with the doors.
  5. You are clearly not taking any chances keith, that looks a lot more bracing than is usually specified, but well worth it for the piece of mind
  6. The sill overhang looks short, are they same on the stone clad windows. Probably has no affect on the leaking but it’s possibly what’s causing the moustache
  7. Yes that’s my understanding, from what I have read
  8. I have been looking at the grids and grave, I would like brick weave but 200 m2 would be too expensive and I’m pretty sure the planning dept will insist on a permeable driveway
  9. Glad you are getting somewhere, I have been conversing with Andy Norris, he has been very helpful
  10. Good and bad in all trades.
  11. A case what you know and who you know ?
  12. I agree with AliG, I would not fit integrated appliances again, free standing much easier to fit and maintain, and better value for money. why buy a nice Miele then hide it in a cupboard
  13. That is shocking, I can lay bricks better than that, and I’m not a bricky
  14. So now you need to find out where the pipe froze and sort preventative measures to stop it happening again
  15. And what did you go for Russell ?
  16. Don’t know yet if I’ll need help with planning permission, but I’ll certainly shout out if I do. Pretty certain we’ll get planning as the plot had permission previously, it’s just about whether we’ll be able to build what we want.
  17. Yes takes an age to get here, but we don't mind, it keeps the rif raf away ?
  18. I dunno what is it they say about Norwich ?
  19. Thanks Joe, Yes i have searched and read loads of interesting threads
  20. Hi I have been lurking and reading for awhile now but though I should join in. My name is Mark and I live near Norwich. My wife and I have acquired a plot of land on which we plan to build a bungalow hopefully with rooms in loft. if we can get approval. The new methods of construction and the accompanying ventilation and heat sources are new to me so I may be asking lots of questions.
  21. Watching thread with interest as I am also considering ICF for my new build. I have not seen R-Wall https://www.r-wall.co.uk/design-with-r-wall mentioned on the forum has anyone had experience of it.
