I do hope so however I was at a local shed manufacturers last week and the guy there said they were expecting another large increase in the spring, due to the Americans buying loads of it. might have just been sales talk but we will see.

Part 5 - Foundations Finished (Finally)

Looks great How big is the foot print ? I'm about to embark on the same process, although my concrete wont be as thick. Who made your raft ?, i'm using AFT I will be installing the UFH pipes exactly as you have done directly on top of pf the EPS then a single layer of mesh. Good feedback re the decoiler and stapler I'll take that onboard -

Well I stand corrected it was Beeny, i thought she had a blow out, there were certainly some problems due to the concrete not being quite right, some of the walls bulged -
Will those band saws cut straight ? i have a cheapo thing but anything over about 2" and the blade wanders and does not cut perfectly straight / square

Yeah I know where you're coming from Nick, I've done some reasonable size extensions before, I enjoy the journey but her indoor just wants to get to the destination ? -

Funnily enough my first job is building the shed, it will make a good site hut for the house build then be a nice big shed when the house is finished ?

I did not just rely on internet research I do my research properly before making a decision -

Heavy doesn’t bother me I’m big and strong, and the fact that it’s heavy is why it doesn’t blow out so easily like EPS, I’ve seen some of the disasters with EPS, even the woman on the TV who used Nudura had blow outs and walls buckling. Any system is only as good as the people building with it. -

Good question Russell, it’s my opinion having looked at both Less bracing required, and the bracing you do need is easier to fit, looks easier to size and make openings. I could be wrong as I haven’t actually worked with either type yet. -

I researched both but decided on ICF, I’m using Isotex blocks rather than EPS Type as its more DIY friendly one of the main pluses for me is the thermal mass you get with concrete and it absorbs the noise, won’t go mouldy and hopefully less cracks -

Concrete block foundation - how many should I use?
Chanmenie replied to Danv's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Have you considered gravel grids base, like Ibran ? easy and cost effective to lay and will keep the timber base dryer than concrete blocks or slab- 15 replies

Yeah thats fancy ? On a serious note looks a nice build ?

loving the minimalistic hand rails ?

Yes @ProDave that would be my preferred location, it’s 6m from the boundary with the neighbour and they don’t use that side of the garden. Their oil fired boiler is that side and it’s pretty noisy, I’m sure it’s far noisier than an ASHP

Average number of trench concrete blocks per day
Chanmenie replied to iMCaan's topic in Bricklaying, Blockwork & Mortar
Well I would say the first course takes longer than the subsequent courses as they will be trying to get them square and level, see how they get on with the next courses. -
Isotex recommend Silicone render, I have a spec sheet from them, if you message me your email address I’ll send it to you
