  1. @IanMcP, I'm not far from you being in Norfolk, i'm starting my new ICF build in the new year. Not as grand as yours but nearly 200sqm I chose the Isotex ICF for its DIY friendliness as I also want to do a lot of the work myself. We are also making some changes to the approved plans like the external covering, i was intending to use brick slips but have given up on that idea as its a PITA, so considered render but now seriously considering cement cladding boards from James Hardie. I was told by planning to complete a variation of conditions application
  2. @IanMcPIf you are considering Durisol have a look at Isotex its a much nicer block
  3. with a warm roof you can wrap it round the outside under the battens and tiles, nothing in the way then
  4. Thanks for the replies guy’s, so we are in agreement that warm roof is the way to go, but I don’t get how a cut roof is easier to detail for air tightness than trusses. @prodave is it any more difficult to insulate all the the way to the eves with trusses ? I was certainly planning to fully insulate so the voids are within the insulated airtight envelope as.my MVHR manifolds and pipes will be in the voids
  5. Hi Guy's Am in the process of getting designs and quotes for my roof / attic trusses, assuming i don't have any restrictions with ridge height, should I go for warm roof with insulation over and between rafters or a cold roof with between and under. From the research i have done it appears warm roof is the most desirable as it removes the cold bridge of the rafters. But I would be very interested in your experiences
  6. what about this stuff A liquid airtight membrane no less https://www.intelligentmembranes.co.uk/product-category/control-range/
  7. Have a look at Isotex from https://insulhubuk.com/ They produce a much better block
  8. Yes we considered just wild camping in a car park, but even though our motorhome does have all facilities I do prefer to use a proper size toilet, so we'd rather stay at a campsite, I'll have a look at the Cirencester Site.
  9. Thanks for the replies, yes we were planning on taking the motorhome and staying at a nearby campsite, which would give us the option of a return visit the following morning if needed. Thanks Nick, looks like there's also a BiuldIt Live in February in Kent which is closer to home
  10. Hi all As I'm planning on starting my selfbuild early next year, is the NSBRC worth a visit its a fair round trip from Norwich to Swindon, so thought i'd ask you guy's if you think it might be worth the trip. We can't go to the open event in October due to work. Any feedback gratefully received
  11. Is than 10 meters distance or 10 meters of pipe run
  12. Which pressfit did you buy ? the ones I have found are over £1000
  13. That’s handy to know, so no.loss of benefit if I face it down the garden away from the neighbours either side
  14. Yeah I get they are not solar panels, but I read somewhere that siting south facing was beneficial.
  15. Hi Can the ASHP experts please give me some guidance. where would you suggest is the best place to site the ASHP, giving consideration to the neighbours but taking advantage of sunlight ( I assume using air warmed by the sun can be beneficial). The boundary to the left is a 2.2m high leylandii hedge, so I would assume that would absorb some of the noise, the wall is approx 4m from the neighbours wall. did not want to site it in the rectangle area between lounge and kitchen as that’s going to be patio. Also depending on where the best place is to site, how is it best to run the pipe work, construction will be insulated raft and Isotex ICF. can I run the pipes through the raft / slab in the EPS or should they go underneath the raft Thanks Mark
  16. Have a look at RED heat pumps they look pretty good Great looking design as designed from scratch and not just a revamped air on unit I think they might be expensive though
  17. What is your cladding made of Keith ?
  18. I did my research on construction before I submitted the plans
  19. Yeah i read all your posts, that was a shitty experience that was so easily avoided if the builders had any brains.
  20. Yes indeed reps just thinking about the dollar. Fortunately I have done a lot of research and am a very competent DIY er so am comfortable that I can do it properly, I am under no illusions.
  21. Yes i have read a few other threads I have also studied Keith65's pictures he used plenty of bracing I did also watch the Grand Designs episode where the guy used Durisol and suffered a blow out round a window, so I am aware of the potential pit falls. it does not seem difficult to brace it so why would you not, like you said a few fools about who like to cut corners i guess
  22. Well only a fool would believe you don't need any bracing I don't believe Insulhub / Isotex sate that, they certainly haven't to me.
  23. Who said you didn't need to brace it ? I certainly didn't
  24. Which Woodcrete block have you used ?
  25. thats interesting Russell, would you care to elaborate. As I am considering Isotex Woodcrete I would be interested in what you have found the downsides to be
