Glazing as Guarding: a piece of 4 by 2, or a blizzard of emails?
craig replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Windows & Glazing
You’re missing what is being said. I’am the supplier, the relevant documentation confirming relevant information “has” been supplied. -

Ask him to call or email me clarifying what he wants. -
Spectrum are a really good company and know what they are doing. I’d recommend them.

It is but is also a job the BCO should be checking. I’am that supplier in this instance and it has been supplied but appears they still want more. -

As I mentioned on a call to you a coupke of weeks back, tell the BCO to do his/her job and check the glazing. They’ve also had the performance declaration and glazing document supplied. What is it they expect to be supplied now? -
Thanks @Thorfun but I was more interested to see where they are located as like with everything else (including ourselves) there is the good and the bad and they ain't all bad some are really excellent. I'd happily give a recommendation based on location for Internorm supplier.

Where are you based?

Are my windows fitted correctly? Help and advice welcomed.
craig replied to muzgabrak's topic in Windows & Glazing
No. It’s just a hassle and cost without any guarantee of a positive outcome. I’d personally fight it just to get a win but I’d piss everyone off in the process (including the wife) but that’s me being a cantankerous git. I’d then get a told you so from the wife at the end of the process. Bite the bullet and do it yourself. -
Double/tripled glazed unit? Soudal Silirub 2 low modulus as it doesn’t react with the hot melt (material bonding glazing unit).

The certified install process via Certass, Fensa and the likes isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. It’s a self certification process that the windows/doors have been “installed” according to building regs. i.e the correct glass has been used etc. GGF guidelines are just that, guidelines, there is no set industry standard that “must” be followed and there is no regs about what material is used to insulate between the wall and the window. Actually no requirement for it at all. Just a recommendation. However, that’s a shocking install going by the pictures but it’s generally not the trade that most of us here will have experience with. I would recommended an independent surveyor is paid for to put a report together if you wish to take this further. They may have used a compriband but looks like just sealant. They should have used expanding foam sealant as a bare minimum. -
Can I counter this by saying that the responsibility for the survey lays squarely at the suppliers feet. Their measurements and unless based on incorrect information being supplied, their fault. There is a reasonable claim that these can be made good but they do need to accept some responsibility & @ggc on the options of making good and the supplier paying towards the costs.

Sh!te, get an independent surveyor. They're Scottish suppliers/installers, they "should" know 90% of everything in Scotland goes in behind the ingo (check reveal). That tells you everything you need to know. He is of course correct. Stand your ground, they're obviously not accepting responsibility or saying we've ****ed up, these are the options available and our preferred solution is x. Is this acceptable?

The difference between 'good' and 'average' windows
craig replied to mxplut's topic in Windows & Glazing
uPVC not really my field tbh but the likes of AluPlast are good profiles but like most profiles, only as good as the manufacturer that makes the window. Edit: look for how the windows opens/closes, welds of the corners, how many gaskets (2 good, 3 better). Uf value (frame), if they try upsell you to triple for better performance on a sh!te frame. A Uf in region of 1 to 1.2 would be good enough but the lower the better. -
What did they say regarding measurements and unit sizes?
-
It’s a relatively easy fix but it does mean building out the opening a little further externally and internally. In the grand scheme of things, it’s 40mm total in width/height. Once you pack out, you’ll never know. I’d be asking them to cover the costs of the work and recompense for the inconvenience. Once done, you’ll have the same result.
-
It's exactly what they have done.
-
Call them before it goes any further and have a discussion with them, I don't know any window supplier or manufacturer that recommends a 30mm tolerance. It's an expensive **** up tbh.
-
There is no way they allow a tolerance of 30mm all around, but, stranger things happen. Ask them and check the other openings and the tolerances before doing so. Reality bites, can you live with it? Yeah probably, is it what you wanted? No. I would personally say live with it and ask for some recompense. Let's say 20% of the cost of the window and expect 10% of the cost back. To be honest, you could reject it and get into a disagreement about it & a fair bit of going back and forth, getting nowhere fast. Is it worth the headache?
-
Was he wearing a blindfold when he measured? 10mm all around is all you need, that window is too small for the opening.
-
That’s putty, just been painted over.
-
Just to add, the units are not 8mm, it is still a double-glazed unit. Fineo vacuum works similar to how laminated glass works. Two panes of glass sandwiched between a lamination layer. Instead of lamination, it is vacuum sealed (0.1mm gap between the two panes). The unit can be 22mm to 34mm.
-
It's by AGC glass, so your good.

External Venetians? The guide rail will have a stopper at bottom at a fixed place (most likely). If you want them lower, you can reposition but you’ll likely need to reset (train) the new position and may not have required slats to go further. Basically put, the stop position is predetermined.
