  1. Really pisses me off, electric boiler are just a con praying on unsuspecting people! That being said, if people are to stupid to spend 30mins checking online checking electric boiler vs ASHP or even just asking around... Maybe they deserve it??
  2. Ours are all in enclosed fittings!! Damn, no wonder so many have flipping failed.
  3. Well done there, will be very satisfying once this saga is over!!
  4. Pleased to have found this topic... We had a shyster for an Elec, and having replaced several g9s before Christmas in the same room (over several weeks), I assumed something was amiss with the wiring because no other bulb in any other place in the house had needed attention..... More fool us for having 4x wall lights, and a ceiling light that takes 6 of the damn things. 8 months in and I'm sure every bulb has been replaced now!! 😔
  5. We're 6 months in, and just starting to settle. One benefit of 100% block built inside and out is the storms don't register much, but having about 2 acres of field higher then us, but being halfway up a hill, does mean every large rain fall has me up checking water discharges and Drains etc! We also have a leak in the damage garage flat roof, one for January as part of snagging!
  6. I don't disagree, however for remote control or smart home integration it's a faff (I imagine...) and I love the heatmiser kit with the ability to graph and monitor temps (though we are over zoned). Other points raised I do agree, but I want to ensure OP has a chance to consider it all in advance!
  7. Can only guess that drilling through the frame, and drilling mounting holes then a new handle kit is the most realistic option!... But you will need drilling it out.
  8. Nice to see someone actually researching and having a think about their ASHP installation! Good choice. Good luck with it
  9. The Samsung controls are very basic, and with the thermostat built in will always read overly warm by the nature of an airing cupboard. As part of the hand over they must take you through its operation, including how to use it. The Samsung instructions are quite complicated for a novice. Have a look through YouTube videos so you know enough to know what they're talking about! Most systems will have an external thermostat, then use the Samsung system for the hot water which is obviously fine for basic controls. That install does look quite messy, I would encourage you to keep a close eye on this project!
  10. Can you post up some pics of it all?
  11. Adhesive bond some form of external lock/latch? You're after security theatre vs actual inner Birmingham on a Friday night!

    Corner Blocks

Just get the next layer to be as per saveasteading's post!

    Corner Blocks

    That will be fine!
  14. Could you paint the underside in a bathroom spec/colour matched paint? Prob need to prime it first!
  15. Honestly, just install Air Con! We did and I love it. Extra burst of heat in the winter should it be required, and then instant full cooling for the summer heat waves. Also ensure you have it for the home office /study! For the sake of a few grand... No brainier.
  16. That's be closer to a £50k budget in my mind to take it all down and rebuild it. Depending on where in the country you are on value for money. Central London yes, up north probably not! I'd probably look to reroof, broadly similar, look to maybe dig down and retrofit UFH! Overboard with insulated pb....
  17. Have you got a close up of the label? The tin looks pretty ropey. If you intend to park your car in the garage, I would buy some proper decent stuff. Once you've put paint down, if it does lift you're in a world of headaches!!
  18. Does QAD have a tech support line? They usually do! Is it water based? I would expect to thin the first coat down a bit. I am using a 2 pack epoxy paint for our garage when I get it tidied up. Never had an issue of warm tyres peeling it up like normal single pack paint.
  19. 2 story foundations on a 3 story house maybe?
  20. We have a lot of driveway & surrounding paths to get done, around 220sqm from my estimates. We have a white render & black window, door etc style, so would like a nice black/charcoal block paving that won't fade to grey. Very contemporary style to the house so looking for 'modern' looking.. Just if anyone could recommend where to start with choosing the right block paving? Any resources people used to help them decide on their own? Cheers,
  21. Interesting read! Please keep us updated with the performance!
  22. Would recommend wrapping it in duct tape at regular intervals if a tight fit!
  23. Heating challenges aside, it's a quirky & attractive house! I see the appeal of it, even if an extra £100 a month to run. Start with the easy stuff, 400mm loft insulation minimum. Secondary glazing, even if magnets and acrylic/perspex sheets. Draft proof and cheap thick rugs (eBay has loads) on the ground floor. Any options to fit a wood burner? External insulation, or Insulated plasterboard overboarding on the inside!
  24. Would love to see pics of this, bigger brother to ours by the sound of it!!
  25. We had a sunflex sliding/floating corner fitted, 2.4 x 8m for about £14k fitted a year ago, double glazed but laminated etc. Very happy with the doors, but the fitters were average.
