Air Source Heat Pump - general question
dpmiller replied to 0llie's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
@JohnMo yes the supply to the ASHP is singlephase, but the inverter converts it to a nice controllable voltage-, current-, and frequency- controlled 3phase. -

dpmiller replied to 0llie's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
"single phase" there means it doesn't apply to any inverter units as they use a 3-ph compressor and slowly ramp up speed, automatically clearing down gently with no "protector" to trip out anyway... -
@Tamdray where did the last photo in your post come from as it's from a different door?

I do wonder how accurate the readings of power analysers are vs certified meters, especially at the low end and with odd power factors... -
MVHR condensation trap type

Is there a maintenance procedure for clearing it of mould, insects etc? -
If it's not actually leaking, could you not just add another expansion vessel elsewhere in the system?

MVHR cooker hood idea
dpmiller replied to woodman's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
something like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/255271428161 as the rubber seal works commendably well. I did however glue a washer onto each flap, to weight it a bit more and ensure it *only* opened with the strong flow from the hood. For motorised, you're probably looking for a spring-return fire damper unit, as the cheap chinese motorised units require an odd switching logic that would be difficult to integrate with our way of wiring things, IMO. -
what's the thermostat on the heater set to?

MVHR cooker hood idea

If the duct runs vertical for a bit, there are good sealed gravity flaps available. That's the route I took. Motorised damper is another possibility. -
Relocating boiler to under stairs cupboard
dpmiller replied to jayc89's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
better that than acidic condensate dripping and marking whatever's beneath it. -
Isn't quoted boiler efficiency combustion efficiency? Certainly the average combustion analyser gives efficiency numbers based purely on this, it cares not what the water temperature is...

Does anyone understand how ADSL broadband actually works?
dpmiller replied to ProDave's topic in Boffin's Corner
there are other brands of router that have built in NAS, I know Draytek often do. I've now got two old routers reconfigured as access points/ switches hanging off the Huawei 4g one. One is a Talktalk homehub thingy, the other is a Draytek 2850. It's got a USB that will run either as a printer server, an NAS, or take a 3/4g dongle for failover purposes. -

I wanted to retain our existing panasonic fax/ DECT base and acquired a Cisco SPA232D adaptor. I first configured it for a cheapo geographic number from the provider to test it's functionality and to get a fixed phone at the site, and it has been working well. -

I'm just awaiting our number port to VOIP completing, and then I will be pleased to be shot of any copper connection to BT. Outgoing calls are working already, inbound is to switch on Tuesday. -
And we're in. So much still to do, but we need to move on the "other place" before the market dies off.

Hep2O Sleves/pipe-inserts Stuck in Hep2O Fittings
dpmiller replied to GandyP's topic in Introduce Yourself
yep, had this too. Shame, as some other brands can be unscrewed to make removal easier /ducks -
It's a similar scheme to my own, but as well as using a Laddomat-style load unit, I've also chosen to use a stove with a cooling coil in it for boil protection. You might want to consider this safety aspect yourself- maybe using an STS valve to supply cold mains to the bottom of the store in the case of a catastrophic overheat?

prices don't look too bad to be but will you be actually saving very much once you get all the mounting kit locally, and deal with any Duties and the onward freight from "London Port"?
