Sorry re read your post . Tape is used at all joints ; like wall to floor transition. Board to board . Over every fixing within the shower ‘wet’ zone

Didn’t prime . The tanking and backer board all from same supplier - no mention of priming ( unless as they state in their instructions you are using other mediums ) So I should ‘blue out’ the niche ? . I stuck the niche collar down with the blue and then went over it again . May of mis understood the instructions so did a second tape / corner pieces at base .

This walls always been a pain . It’s been supposedly fixed before ( cracks in External render filled ) This is the downstairs lounge wall . Bathroom directly above . Bathroom internal wall seems fine . No obvious leak in bathroom. No water marks on ceiling in lounge . Assume not a roof issue as half way down . Nothing obvious outside , even checked in the rain .

Assume I should paint the inset with the water proof blue paste ? . Makes me wonder what the wall tile adhesive is actually going to stick to !

Welcome . Regarding finding plots I just go around in my preferred area looking for houses with large gardens . Chance of them selling is slim - but you never know until you ask . 36 months ; you’re fast . I think @Onoff took longer than that to do his bathroom . Your compromise will be what you would like and what any plot can deliver . There are many ways to skin a cat though . Get a plot ( cheaper if no PP ) and fight the council for over 36 months ??

I’ve always been confused by the point of this . After all if water gets past grout / Mastik I.e the initial barrier . You have a problem anyway . As the shower tray sits on this - then any water here means everything above has failed . So is it just delaying the inevitable???

First round of ensuite tanking done . Never really sure about this where you just glue bits of material down ....
