  1. Welcome to the forum @stratman90 lots of invaluable information on here. I too am building in co down and running to similar timescales to yourself. Currently struggling to get a roof finished with the weather currently.
  2. That's what I have @Declan52 only with a 50mm reveal strip. Are you saying you filled the whole of the gap below the stepped DPC with PIR, not convinced I would get this completely filled with a rigid insulation.
  3. @PeterW I have edited the above post to clarify that there is not a monumental cold bridge. To clarify, are you saying that they don't drill or fill directly above the window in order not to damage or disrupt the DPC and that the beads will find their way in there from the other fill points that they use? Am I right with the PIR reveal strips to close off between the heads?
  4. I am getting close to having windows installed (its been a long journey to here), my brickies have installed dpc and then vertical insulation reveal strips to the inside of the external skin of block and returned the inside block to meet this and close the cavity. At the head we have nothing other than internal & external head along with a filler head to partially close the cavity. My thought is to use some more pir reveal strips to close the remainder of the cavity and some low expansion foam if necessary. Is my thinking right? Lets assume it is, I am full filling the cavity with blown beads what should I do with the area under the sloped DPC above heads (see image)? Do I just leave this and assume/instruct/trust the insulation installers to blow beads into this section? Thanks again in advance.
  5. It will be well washed in/away after today's rain
  6. @PeterW that would be great thanks.
  7. That's your first mistake @Nickfromwales using a mac
  8. That's the sort of thing I want to do @PeterW seems like I need to go and dig around Visio a bit more.
  9. I do work with computers all day so can access both PowerPoint and Visio easily. I use Visio alot for network diagrams but when I looked I didn't think it was great for depicting valves/manifolds etc. Visio and office products were available at a very competitive price on Amazon for along time.
  10. Found these guys who are fairly local to me. http://enviroform-insulation.com/product/steel-window-posts-lintels/ Am I right in thinking @oranjeboom @A_L that as this appears to be foil faced and taped with foil tape it then acts as a VCL.
  11. Anybody recommend where/how I could draw a decent plumbing schematic drawing? I have a few queries I want advice on from the plumbing wizards on here but would prefer to furnish my post with a nice drawing/picture for clarity.
  12. @A_L does this help? a3 - wall details 4.pdf
  13. Thanks @Alphonsox zooming in on the right hand door, does your dpc run just to the left of the track in what seems to be a continuous vertical joint?
  14. I have 2 corner windows with the obligatory steel corner posts. How should these be insulated, all 4 sides or just the 2 external sides? Was thinking of using this for insulating:- https://www.phstore.co.uk/spacetherm blanket or CBS
  15. @Luckylad scraped textured finish with k-rend silicone k1 I believe.
  16. @Declan52 my understanding is the tracks will be fixed to the back of the opening ie the inside skin leaving a 465mm reveal. @Alphonsox you can probably confirm how your tilt-a-door sectional was fitted, I hope to use them also.
  17. @Luckylad render will be k-rend. The whole house is 215mm internal skin for wind loading as specified by the engineer. I believe this is more specific to some areas of the house than others but kept it all the same. We are quite exposed and had a few walls blow down during construction. The garage won't be heated initially but we are putting provision in for it in the future if we decide we want it heated.
  18. So it seems I have missed the fine detail on my vehicle garage doors. Brickies have constructed the reveal with a cavity and closed it by returning block with insulation strip and dpc in the same manner as a window. The other day I was gazing in thought at the house and realised the sectional garage doors will be fixed internally to the inside blockwork skin. What then would I do with the reveal:- - leave as is and plaster over to internal skin (door face) with the dpc in place. Would dpc still be effective? - remove insulation and dpc and close cavity completely with block, what then do I do for dpc to stop damp spread internally with a 215 mm internal leaf. Some pics to help hopefully. Thanks in advance.
  19. They are a good job. Used mine for cutting pockets for steel and oak feature trusses and purlins. More than paid for itself now.
  20. Saved over £100 (2 different transactions) on 6 nest protects.
  21. My vaulted ceiling is approx 5m high on a space which is 8m x 5.5m. It's not finished yet as seen in the picture but doesn't seem too high.
  22. @Declan52 Im well used to having them on the ceiling but not 2 together ie a smoke and a CO hence why I am looking at combined efforts
  23. @PeterW my original post is misleading slightly, we have 2 rooms that have wood burning stoves so both smoke and CO sensors required. If we were to use nest in these then we would be bound to use nest in the rest of the house to satisfy the linking of the smoke alarms is my understanding. That would then equate to 6/7 units.
  24. I have a dilema regarding heat/smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for my house. In each of my living rooms specifically I require both a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm to which I dont want to have 2 stuck in the ceiling along with MVHR outlet. Combined offerings seem to be limited with none from Aico which seems to be a favourite on here. Nest is a combined offering but the cost puts me off as I would need to put these throughout the house to satisfy the linked system requirement, needing 6/7 puts me off. Anyone any further suggestions?
  25. Do you mean broadband repeater?
