Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework
Onoff replied to Onoff's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
I think one thing holding me up is "regret" that I didn't bring the vertical stack inside, up the corner where it currently exits through the wall. Then down and under the floor. Could have got a totally clean, external wall, easier for future EWI. -
Anyone install an electricity meter for free?
Onoff replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
BG are alright in my dealings with them. For instance EDF wanted ££ to come fit an REC to an existing supply and silly lead times. BG were offering the service for nowt and apologised that they couldn't come and do it for 2 days...but only for BG customers. In the end EDF did it. They then never charged for it but I'm guessing that was an oversight on their part. -
Reading elsewhere it seems Einhell make the tools for Aldi (Workzone) & Lidl (Parkside). Then I came across this for a battery adapter plate: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2152625

Big clear acrylic sheet? My missus insisted on tile effect wallpaper next to the dishwasher which gets splashed when loading. Splashback...I can still remember Imagination doing that track on TOTP

I'd not attach it to the house but build a pier that end and have a gap. Do after the house wall is finished.

Amazing how the same plumber managed to do both our houses! My losses here are horrendous as I've alluded to before I think. The CH for upstairs and HW for up & downstairs run in the uninsulated triangular roof spaces in front of the dormer. All in copper with Hep2O grey fittings. I've tried lagging as best as I can. If I went "up the middle" of the dormer above the ground floor ceiling I could more than halve the pipe runs. Disruptive though, as in rooms emptied and carpets up! As for power flushing...you'd clear the crap out and improve the efficiency for another few years then its A N Others problem. That might sound mercenary but where do you stop. I'm sure new owners would appreciate EWI or you digging a few floors up and putting UFH in but you're not going too. Just clean for now, sell and accept its a periodic maintenance issue for someone else. -

Couldn't you just buy some time with a power flush? -

OK, my loft is full of the grey fittings but with copper pipe. There's a few loose fittings here and there that I've collected. The top photo is Hep2O - see the vertical marks on the "nut". Guessing 20 years old as that's when the boiler and upstairs rads were put in. The bottom one with the "wavy" line is from stuff I bought in the last few years. It's unmarked brand wise but I thought up until now it was Hep2O. The designs are very similar. Don't FFS make the mistake I did and try and interchange parts between the two brands. Only time I've had a leak! You seem to have the same mix of grey fittings that I do. -
Sounds like a job for an M4 conduit lid screw and I've got loads of them. Cheers.

That's me out of ever doing it then. I'd go postal on someone.

Just bought a couple of those foam outside tap covers from Screwfix on the back of this thread. https://www.screwfix.com/p/outside-tap-cover-x-19mm-x/77873?kpid=77873&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIw4bSwejD1wIVCucbCh10_QIyEAQYASABEgL8GvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CLrCrsPow9cCFWmn7QodxaMO5w

.22 or .177 will sort it!

What was that number of turns...23 - 29 you said? I remember thinking it was excessive at the time having always done far less (and having thd odd leak and the tap turning) Tentatively did it and once again thought "Smart ar** plumbing guru!" My goto method now!

Fitted the exact same one. Stainless steel screws and all nice and dead level too: Followed the @Nickfromwalesmethod winding circa 25 turns of PTFE tape on before screwing the tap into the boss and stopping when it "felt right". Job done. (And yes I've painted over the brown EBT now )

@8ball, in your calcs above its 30% of full load not "remaining". Appreciate it's still nom 13A! Don't discount the Christmas dinner effect when considering diversity!

I believe you need a check valve on garden taps to stop back syphoning but why not just change the taps for ones with built in check valves?

For anyone who likes a sci-fi read then Harry Harrison's Eden series is good. In it the reptilian overlords GROW their houses...from pips or something. Not so far fetched when you think of how quick bamboo grows.

They'll huff and they'll puff... Sorry, couldn't resist! Try the Ecology Building Society. I think you have to meet strict criteria and use bought in straw filled "panels".

25-30 seconds for the hot to come through to the kitchen tap here and that's NEAREST the cylinder!
