  1. Careful buying cheap A4 Gr316 stuff. I've some from the Far East stamped "A4 80" and it's RUSTY!
  2. I've used Modern Screws too. I tend however to use XR Fasteners in Rainham, Essex. No website. T: 01708 524469. Ask for Vik. He should be able to give you a quote and delivery cost.
  3. I considered the thin ones but would have had to puncture the vcl anyway. A case too go with what you like and I like Aurora! Any I wanted to see "if I could" with the whole Thermahood thing. Let's face it this ceiling didn't really need a vcl...I should have looked to have the loft space above inside the warm envelope. Spilt milk etc!
  4. What I was aiming at:
  5. I paid well under £10 board for graded scaffold borads. Brand new but for whatever reason didn't make the grade; minor splits/checks, maybe under thickness one end. They come unbanded. Got them from a chap out near Maidstone. For my big gate I Cuprinoled the 4 edges and stood the ends in a bucket of the stuff. Gave it 3 coats of Bedec Barn Paint and it still looks great. I'd definitely use them to clad say a garden room. I reckon they would wear a bit quick as decking. You would need something non slip too. Cuprinol's non slip decking paint is expensive but excellent.
  6. This green stuff? Surprisingly tough I've found. Made the mistake of trying to join it at the overlap with Visqueen DPM tape. FAR too thick and not that sticky! Ended up foil taping the joints and hoping for the sandwiching effect of of the pb up against the join.
  7. Pretty sure water softening salts are sodium chloride and used to remove maganese, iron, calcium etc that make water "hard" ?
  8. I know she's turning into her mother but tonight SWMBO informs me she's bought some Epsom Salts! "WTF?" I asked. Apparently because "They're good for you!" (She has I think a hernia which she's convinced isn't and wants a soak in the bath which I can appreciate). BUT...in the back of my mind something's telling me these salts will not be good for the spa bath and rot the jets & pump. I really don't want to knacker it before we've even run it. Possibly it'll be even worse as the pump isn't yet running and the stuff might sit in there and not get washed through. @Nickfromwales, one for you mate! ???
  9. So the Lidl duct tape I've been using...
  10. Once you get the polystyrene coving up you won't even see it!
  11. So I knocked up a template. Drew round the Thermahood with a Sharpie on some scrap ali then cut out the exact shape with some tin snips: With my home brew Starrett adapter... I can attach the hole saw I used... This is the gist but the Stanley type knife, even this small one, is too big to wield and cut around the corners, off to find the scalpels! And YES that is a faux pas with a hole in the wrong place! My only excuse is that I'd had a 600ml bottle of Cobra and the mark where to drill was one of 3 discussed with SWMBO
  12. Matches the slot in the shower if so...
  13. What are the two "slots" where the wall tiles meet the ceiling behind the shower?
  14. This stuff is good, torch on, embossed, aluminused "felt". Heat it up with a hot air gun. The backing goes molten and sticks like the proverbial:
  15. Looks the dog's danglies that!
  16. Re "felt" is the only answer I'm afraid!
  17. Same issue I've got! Did half the roof area really well a couple of times and it STILL LEAKED! Trouble is it will track from one point between the layers of felt.
  18. Multisolve from CT1 will clean off cement splashes according to the side of the can.
  19. Have you bought that roof repair compound yet? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WT1-Repair-Waterproof-Seal-5kg/182917865757?hash=item2a96c1211d:g:XVkAAOSw9~5ZU4b9 £££
  20. Not sure if this stuff would be any good: http://www.stormdry.com/
  21. OK it won't happen soon but I'm going to plaster my bathroom ceiling (and one half wall) myself. It's moisture resistant, the green stuff. Any pointers? Some prepping I'm guessing, PVA? I've done a bit of wall plastering maybe 25 years ago but never a ceiling. Even then only small areas say a metre wide at the top and bottom of landings. Worse case I screw it up and get the BiL to make good my mess Cheers
  22. These cry out to be foamed in imho (not trimmed the foil/vcl yet and not the final cabling which will be in 20mm galv):
  23. How about spray adhesive? Surprisingly sticky! https://www.screwfix.com/p/no-nonsense-contact-adhesive-natural-500ml/32657 Failing that a "grab" adhesive. Whatever's cheapest I reckon.
  24. Imho any underground duct might be subject to condensation internally, more so if the cables run a bit warm. This could conceivably pool at any low point in the duct and affect and cable laying in it. I imagine this is one reason why any cable in a duct should be "duct rated". Paranoia? The regs touch on the issue of condensation, protection against moisture etc. The last bit of duct I ran I even considered running a length of aquarium tube in there so I could periodically pump out whatever, if anything, got in there. I even considered punching some drain holes mid point in the duct, wrapping in landscape fabric and packing gravel around it before concreting. Of course then I worried about the water table etc so in the end did nothing! I just ran everything in 20mm conduit and kept those together with some black dowpipe for neatness when concreting. Just noted that photo was taken in June 2014 @readiescards and it's still not finished! Tell your missus
