  1. Removing the 1mm (yellow) packs and the tips of a few are in there tight and stick fast though snapped off flush. No way are they coming out. Presume OK to just grout and (colour matched) mastic bead over?
  2. 50 feet would be bad enough!
  3. Welcome. Love the IoW. Was there earlier in the year & weather (& beer ) were superb. Quite a lot of derelict / boarded up places there seem ripe for development.
  4. Saves a fortune on salt!
  5. The heat losses must be incredible! EasySwitch receiver is more rugged I'd say than Quinetic.
  6. I've debated a South facing, home brew, solar thermal array feeding a loop under the sloping drive with the pipes set a car's width apart. Meant to incorporate ducts within the sliding gate footings but forgot.....
  7. Looking forward to the snow pictures!
  8. How far are you going with the off grid thing? Any livestock planned? I've some good links to home built biogas plants. One from Mother Earth News and a Nepalese design my Gurkha friends confirm is widely used and provided the (gas) light they did their homework by as kids whilst Mum cooked dinner on the gas stove. Also a US solar energy forum if you're interested.
  9. Ideally the trap wants to be sited along a wall rather than open ground. You can often see a mark at the entry hole where the dirt and grease off their belly leaves a mark. If you catch a juvenile then likely there's more along with the parents. Reset the trap whatever. Worth placing some grub outside the hole and watching from a downwind vantage point. What flavour Bounty btw, blue or red, we love details!
  10. Make sure the bottoms of your trousers are tight! Seriously...saw one run up the FiL's leg.
  11. +1 but the smell? How about remove the brick but place a baited live trap against it?
  12. I have plans for a snowmobile if you're interested...
  13. @Nickfromwales, A question...when I do the window sill tiling: SWMBO doesn't want to feel the edge of the tile trim ideally (when SHE cleans ), she wants it flush with the tile. Should I then set the tiles flush but leave a nominal credit card size gap and fill with colour matched silicon? Cheers
  14. It's probably a rat or squirrel. Likely going out for food at someone's bird table or eating scraps left out for foxes. The chewing is just what they do keeping their teeth down. Any overhanging trees they can access the roof from, rough cast walls they can run up, badly detailed dormer returns, below ground service penetrations or gaps in footings etc? I have all the above btw!
  15. No can do, my Passport's expired! Oh, and welcome aboard @Rendall.
  16. Oh, and I re trimmed the pocket over the wc with new trim affixed with clear CT1. Much neater/happier than my attempt with mitre bond. A little strip of duct tape just to hold in the perfect position!
  17. @Weegaz, loads of options as above. I still reckon Quinetic would do it. Or Easy Switch though a bit pricier. https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/LMESR1.html? Be nice if they could see, from the house if the boiler was "on" or a least if the remote switch had worked...230V red / amber lamp in the garage window if they can see it from the house maybe...no good in the day though! 50m away...so is hot water piped all the way back to the house? I thought my pipe runs were long!
  18. Quinetic switch at the house and 6A receiver or even the 13A socket receiver adapter in the garage? https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Wiring_Accessories_Menu_Index/Quinetic/index.html Good for that range.
  19. I've been paid before in sausages and or cheese....
  20. A few fiddly ones at the bottom stuck on today. All on 1mm packs to achieve the requisite "credit card" distance off the floor:
  21. Abdul's free.....
  22. Mate has just fitted these in his alcoves either side of his chimney breast: https://www.soundproofingstore.co.uk/store/SoundBoard-4-1-2m2-30mm-p52219211
  23. Non alcoholic...never heard of it...?
  24. i've a couple of sets of these. actually got two different makes in that one is branded titan and the other unbranded. that and the cases are a different colour. cheap as and will get you out of most problems unless long reach into an appliance. i've had one at work for about 20 years and still going strong. only downside is they don't come with a universal handle. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-pc-BIT-SCREWDRIVER-SET-TORX-STAR-HEX-KEY-NODE-SECURITY-TAMPERPROOF-SCREW/263353589575?hash=item3d5118df47:g:UrIAAOSwYIxX-Mme:rk:11:pf:0 this one appears to be made specifically for the ladies and comes with a handle; https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/100-PC-SCREWDRIVER-HEX-POZIDRIVE-TORX-SECURITY-BIT-SET/312162376806?hash=item48ae53dc66:g:lv8AAOSwj-BbI7H1:rk:38:pf:0 the big y shaped thing is for screwing / unscrewing cup hooks btw. buy it at that price. - excuse lack of capitals, shift key not working on this lappy -
  25. Nothing in Lidl the other day for less than £4.49 wine wise, obviously putting their prices up.
