  1. A-frame gantry? Difficult without seeing the wider site conditions. What's going over "the hole"? Build an I beam into a pergola structure? Any higher structures adjacent?

  3. Old plaster goes off quicker then a quick thing. I don't know how old is old though? I know you can retard plaster setting with Cream of Tartar - I've done it and it works a treat. A boon if you're a newbie to spreading it and slow anyway. Don't know if it'd give you a bit more time on old stuff?

  7. I "framed out" for a number of reasons: 1) Primarily to square the room off and add insulation (down to a minimum of 50mm). 2) To plumb the walls, I only found out how "out they were once I started. 3) To hide the concealed WC & other pipework. 4) To create feature recesses.

  9. If you were to do a concrete base you compact hardcore within levelled shuttering: Once the hardcore is pretty much level you "blind" it with sand. This is to protect the DPM you lay next (damp proof membrane). (Tbh I laid down a load of old flattened, rubble bags too). Not shown is a layer of A142 mesh in there. Then fill with concrete. Took me about 4 hours to mix, lay and tidy up on my own: Then tamp it all flat with a long straight board: With the shuttering off you can see the (blue) dpm all round the edge.
  10. The previous owner secured pp for the garage here that is well forward of the principle elevation albeit off to one side. Though still a fair distance from the road, as the house itself is, they insisted the garage had a hip end or so I was told.

  15. Have a look at what @ProDave did in "Main Bathroom Complete": http://www.willowburn.net/ Imo 600 wide panels are a bit daft and introduce an unnecessary joint. Wider panels the way to go with as few joints as possible.

  17. I presume it's insured? The electrical wiring must be in a bit of a state, add to that highly flammable vermin nests... Just saying... ?

  19. Clear SOME sand onto the pink holding area. But clear it from a defined area. Then bring soil back on the return trip and dumping where the sand came out of. Get a rhythm going. Try and cut down on moving stuff twice.
  20. & cheaper than gym membership! I'd do a square metre at a time. Just concentrate on that. Once to depth start the next square metre. You'll see clear, measurable, progress. I need to try that approach with what we refer to as "the side of the house". Thank your lucky stars you haven't got working drains and old footings reinforced with chain link fence to dig up. (The drains pass through the footings). There's always someone worse off! ? Hand digging is doable. Think for my bathroom I dug out about 4.5m3 of concrete & compacted soil by hand and barrowed it out of the house. It grows in volume when you dig it up btw!

  22. Can we maybe see the bit of the plan where it's "clear"? If it's labelled I imagine it's clear cut in your favour but if down to fine detail, then a 3rd party (judge etc) might say it's 50/50.
  23. So if the finishes on the wall in question are shown, clearly in plan and the builder hasn't read them imo it's down to them. Doesn't matter how you've provided it if they've missed it.
