The BiL is an old school diesel fitter by trade. He questioned whether it could be a "sticky" pump. Talking to him and he reckons one trick is to mix up a gallon of engine oil with the same amount of kerosene and pour that into the tank. This on the basis that kerosene isn't a particularly good lubricant. Saying that, touch wood, since replacing the cap (still the old fridge/freezer salvaged one) and wiping the photocell (which didn't look dirty to me) we've not had a lockout. I've a brand new Riello cap sitting here along with complete bowl filter. Could cold weather combined with a dirty filter cause lockout? Thinking in cold weather the oil is more viscous etc.

Are these particular spots switched / wired otherwise any differently? Is that particular grid switch's wiring in closer proximity to the live feed(s) to the grid bank than the other light switches? In close proximity to any other non lighting circuit wiring? It used to be that these new fangled CFLs could flicker even with the light switch off. Talk abounded of stray capacitance along the 3-core and earth wiring used for two way switching and induced voltage. Swapping the common / strappers around was a trick to try and/or along with fitting a "snubber" from Maplin usually. Actually an RC contact suppressor. (Not Radio Control ?). Yep. You then get a factory edge on top. You remove the 1mm packs when the tile adhesive has gone off. Then ram in clear CT1 and baby wipe off. Finish with a fillet of your choice of coloured silicone. (& remember to only take photos of the good bits ? )

+1 Wall tiles would have looked like pi$$y little rips there. Cut floor tiles will look much better. As Uncle Nick taught me: Put an upside down tile on 1mm / credit card thick packs. To get your cut line etc.
