  1. The Timber Frame co! Why?
  2. Vented ridge tiles.
  3. No, We we have OSB sparking board, covered with non-tenting membrane, then battens and counter battens and finally slates. The battens and the space under the slates is vented.
  4. No, I was going to extend the green membrane across the soffit and up behind the barge board. In that way it’ll reduce the wind wash on the end of the PIR insulation (above).
  5. Just emailed them to confirm the price, I do like a bargain!
  6. I have a gap between the top of my insulated walls where the roof trusses sit on the wall plate. Can I simply fill it with insulation and foam around any gaps?
  7. Assuming the majority here aren’t up to completing this project, what is the next best thing commercially available what will optimise self consumption of PV energy!?
  8. All sounding very positive, is this a project someone without any programming skills could undertake?
  9. 300W / 305W JA All Black Solar Panel - Mono Percium - Latest Tech - MCS Approved. £123 each. Is this s reasonable price?
  10. Most residential cabins (caravans) are SIPs construction, maybe this would meet your year round usage requirements and get over the weight issue, you could clad the exterior in local larch or cedar? Why the large entrance area, does it need it separate, why not open the front door straight into the lounge? You could split the log cabin at the internal mid wall and have two 15tonne pieces?
  11. Isn't it wonderful, you search for BBA certified render board and you still get loads coming up that arent! Makes you wonder how many people buy render boards thinking they're certified and they're not! One on Ebay displays the BBA logo next to the product, but when asked for a copy, all I get is silence!
  12. Why not do a trial panel, if it look rubbish you could remove it. Maybe fix an 8 x 4 sheet to the wall as a temporary backer and pour concrete against that as your trial peice.
  13. As I’m doing the rendering myself and don’t need a guarantee, so the cheapest board and render mesh is the order of the day !
  14. I’m never sure about BBA certification, should I be using products that are certified, or can I just use the most cost effective product? In particular, there are plenty of render boards out there which don’t appear to be BBA approved, would I matter if I used an unapproved board ?
  15. What’s the likelihood of lightning hitting a copper weather vane? Would I need a conductor to earth? Is a weather vane on the highest point of the house a good idea?
  16. After more searching I’ve found this about the mount8ng rod diameters and mounting https://www.westcoastweathervanes.com/basic-drilled-installation-instructions-for-medium-large-and-extra-large-weathervanes/
  17. Nice video @Ferdinand Now for the technical stuff. I like the idea of making a weather vane, I also want to keeping things local. I need to make the mounting rod that fastens to the house. So, what diameter is the rod sticking up from the mounting plate. I assume it’s solid and the weather vane tube is hollow and slides over it?
  18. The house is up and the designer has asked if she can have a weather cock! looking on line it’s not clear to me how they afix it to the roof, has anyone installed a weather vane and if so how ? She wants it to sit on top of here
  19. I also like the fact you’ve kept with traditon and installed it horizontally.
  20. My father built dozens of houses and they used 6 foot x 6 foot timber squares, these were criss braced using 3 x 2 timber studwork with planks in top.
  21. A number and a house name is quite common round here, our last house was The Birches, 87 Weston Road, our current house is The Croft, Church Road. The newer property at the end of the street just have numbers. At Christmas a mischevious friend addressed the Christmas card to the Mansion on Church Road, Ian our postman delivered it, no problem. A friend worked for British Geological Survey on the customer help line, someone rang and asked about the potential for flooding, the house was called Wetlands and it was on Watersplash Lane. A name can often say it all.
  22. Do we get a discount for all the plasterboard lifters we’re buying? I’ll be buying one soon as I’ve also got sloping ceilings. Still not sure how I’m going to plasterboard the four storey stairwell walls and ceiling? Do they do an extra long extension?
  23. What sort of Badgers do you have! At worse ours eat the odd plant and head butt to odd car late at night!
  24. Sell what you can, including mobile phones.
  25. The shared turning area is a bad idea, someone will park in it !
