  1. I agree with Dave, keep it simple, all you need it an on/off switch by the outlet (no tap).
  2. Your break from EBuild didn’t last very long, go on, admit it, you miss us!!
  3. Talk to Hilliard Tanner, he’s the go to guy for insulated foundations, he did mine and was reasonably priced. Once I had the design I bought all the insulation, fixed the steel reinforcing and poured the concrete myself. All fairly straightforward. http://www.tsd.ie/
  4. Ikea did something similar, not sure if they still do it. you could always DIY. Not sure where you would get the panels from, maybe someone could suggest a supplier?
  5. I wonder what this is? Anyone seen anything about it? ps... Just find this... https://www.insider.co.uk/news/sunamp-signs-deal-chinese-firm-18327858.amp?__twitter_impression=true
  6. Heat tech company @SunampLtd has signed an agreement with Chinese partner Jiangsu Gomon New Energy to move forward with manufacturing of an innovative heat pump water heater @Ivan_McKee attended the signing! #ScotInnovation #ScotlandCANDO via Twitter
  7. My brother has done two kitchen using eBay buys. His last kitchen cost £150 and was 18 months old. The seller was a builder who had the job of fitting a new one, as the lady didn’t like the one that was in the house she’d recently bought. The proviso was my brother had to strip the kitchen out on an agreed date. The built in microwave still had the foam packers inside for the turntable, having never been used. I’t came complete with a built in fridge, freezer and dishwasher. One mans rubbish and all that.
  8. I’m thinking of installing CCTV monitoring, alarms are pointless, as no one responds to them. I’m thinking if I can see someone around the house (via the App) I can shout at them from a beach somewhere, or call the Police! Round here it’s tools, garden stuff, mowers, small farm maintenance equipment etc. stuff they can lift and shift quickly and sell on without too many questions.
  9. Can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work
  10. Absolutely, in our old house we simply connected our ground floor UFH direct to the Combi and it worked fine.
  11. A spokesperson for the Association of Consultant Approved Inspectors (ACAI), which represents private building control bodies, said: ’Statutory regulations on professional indemnity and public liability insurance are currently excessively stringent, meaning many insurers are unwilling to provide cover for inspectors. This is creating a crisis point within the building control industry. https://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/news/building-control-at-crisis-point-as-inspectors-struggle-to-find-insurance-cover/10043285.article According to Radio 4 a number inspection companies have ceased trading as they are no longer insured.
  12. I see you’ve been thinking about this for a while!
  13. The barrier is there to stop oxygen permeation through the pipe, which in turn can cause corrosion of metal within the system.
  14. The biggest problem will be climate refugees, by 2050 parts of the world will be abandoned due to either extreme heat or flooding. Im left wondering, could the UK power grid cope with all this extra cooling requirement?
  15. I looked at joining a few years ago, decided it wasn’t worth it. Save your money for the build, if you have a question, ask it here, it’s free!
  16. Reading the paper today I see that in some parts of coastal USA the latest mantra is elevation, elevation, elevation. Do you ever worry about climate change and it’s effect on your building location, construction style etc.
  17. I’m making the most of the good weather to get the outside of the house finished, the last thing I want to be doing is working outside in the cold and wet. My wife, reading this over my shoulder, has just reminded me that I’m feeling guilty of leaving the inside untouched! You can’t win.... By the way, Sunday is my day off.
  18. With the good weather I’m working hard on finishing the outside of the building, rendering, cladding, slates on the roof, gutters etc. This left me wondering how long does it take to complete the inside work, electrics, plumbing, plastering, flooring? I realise this is a bit of a “ how long is a peice of string” question, but please share your experience.
  19. A week later and the Cedral cladding is installed and all we need now is for the scaffold to come down so we can finish the rest of the roof.
  20. Wow, just read this thread and the review site, I’ve got to ask why would Sunamp jump into bed with such poorly rated bedfellows? If I were Sunamp I’d be looking for quality not quantity!
  21. The deal is done https://www.sunamp.com/sunamp-signs-first-uk-head-of-terms-with-fischer-future-heat/ ive not got my Sunamp delivered yet, should I get it delivered before the crash?
  22. I’m about to fit plastic barge boards and gutters and having read about the dreaded squeak, I was wondering if it could be reduced in any way? How about fixing membrane to the end of each rafter before fixing the barge boards, would that reduce the squeak? Thoughts!
  23. You could call this lot and ask for a price http://www.swuksteeldecking.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6tnV7OSL4wIVqrvtCh2LjgVOEAAYASAAEgIJ0_D_BwE
  24. My insulated raft foundation sits directly on rock, the engineer I used to design it didn’t raise the rock as a problem!
  25. Here’s what the administrators say... ”Bathroom retailer Bathstore has gone into administration, although it will continue to trade while a buyer is sought. BDO has been appointed as the administrator and says the firm is expecting to be able to satisfy "the majority" of outstanding customer orders, although installations will stop immediately.” if if you have any outstanding orders, best arrange delivery ASAP.
