  1. These and sockets are still available and I use them for lighting controlled by wall switches (hard wired ones!!,!,)
  2. Looking good mate, slim shelves are good so nothing gets lost at the back.
  3. No but if kitchen tap was excluded (like is so often done with water softeners) not only would it cool the larder but raise the water temp slightly so heating for DHW was slightly less 🤷‍♂️ ha, others beat me to it 🤷‍♂️
  4. Well my first thought of building a well insulated house, over 20 years ago, I planned a larder, but outside the thermal envelope, north side of the house so no solar gain and between house and attached garage/workshop so access was without going outside to either larder or workshop.

  6. Sorry to hear about this ongoing problem. imo you need to identify if it’s the parapet or wall/window, 1200 gauge dpc plastic draped over the parapet wall and held down then soak it all with a hose and see if it leaks. )I don’t like parapet walls) have you got a drawing of a cross section of it.? what does the original builder say about it?
  7. Ah sorry @Pocster I misunderstood 🤪
  8. He admitted to me that he arrived a couple of times to find his front door open, turns out that rain had triggered it open!!!! Yes I looked into keyless (like on a car) but the reviews were not that good.
  9. Defo change the lock IMO, not that difficult to do (yes I would be pissed off too, honesty is the best policy).
  10. I agree, https://www.ageuk.org.uk/globalassets/age-uk/documents/factsheets/fs39-paying-for-care-in-a-care-home-if-you-have-a-partner.pdf (for some reason I can’t cut and paste the relevant paragraph)
  11. Yes thermal mass is a term used by many, and we all know what it means but it has no values attributed to it so it cannot be mathematically calculated like insulation (U or R values) I prefer to call a house heavy (if it has external insulation) or lightweight (like a caravan or house with internal insulation).
  12. No, you can only appeal a refusal.
  13. Ah, a set screw is a bolt where the thread goes all the way to the head. https://frscott.co.uk/blog/set-screws-and-a-bolts-what-is-the-difference/
  14. Perhaps you could create positive pressure within the house, just depends where you could get “clean” air from I guess.
  15. I agree, very clever but how many people will notice 🤷‍♂️
  16. I believe alarms still sound even if internal units are disconnected (interruption in loop wiring) but as said above lots of people ignore alarms. Good locks and good insurance is my Choice.
  17. A UPVC corner bead would be my choice.
  18. My brother bought a site caravan on the coast for use 9 months of the year and he says it’s the best thing he could have invested in for themselves and immediate family.
  19. I was a landlord fir a couple of years and hated it, not sure the return is worth the hassle/ stress , if it were me stick with the caravan and leave it there if possible.
  20. Why are you against trims? Anything else and you will have problems plastering to the wall corner.
  21. No, A bolt is a non-tapered fastener that uses a washer and nut to hold objects together. A screw is a tapered fastener that mates with an existing thread or creates its own thread in a material as it turns.
  22. Screws for joist hangers have a different shank to fill the hole in the metal (every day is a school day .)
  23. https://www.yourownarchitect.com/can-screws-be-used-with-joist-hangers/ Fir some reason i can’t cut and paste the relevant paragraph about using hanger screws or nails.
  24. I remember a thread here a long time ago where someone used screws in joist hangers and was told it should have been nails because they work best in shear 🤷‍♂️. I guess it depends on the type of metal and diameter.
