  1. Ditto, not heard that before (every day is a school day). Does seem mad tho, permitted development is there really to enable non intrusive buildings yet there appears to be no limit on the height of the upstand/parapet.🤷‍♂️
  2. NO. (In a word). I can’t see anything wrong with this set up 🤷‍♂️
  3. I think this is important to stay clean.
  4. I think you need to establish the cause of the mold first, leakage (internal or external) or lack of ventilation. Kitchens tend to be like bathrooms producing lots of moisture.
  5. My plasterer used to cable tie a couple of plastic milk crates to his boots to reach the ceiling 🤷‍♂️
  6. This would be the least expensive and least intrusive answer IMO
  7. Yes, because ASHP,s heat slowly and at low temps they work in well insulated houses, where they fail IMO is where the heat loss of the house is greater than the input.
  8. Question, why would a sink be more messy in an island? (And don’t be sorry for asking questions).
  9. See Also I guess Granny is not going out much so will need heat 24/7 so I think most ASHP and UFH works on the principle of constant temps not neat up and cool down. Therefore a well designed ASHP system will work with additional Granny’s instant heating.
  10. It depends on the height of the pipes in the ground, with my trench footings the pipes went over the top (shallow ground) then built in block/brick work and lintels over. If the pipes are within the trench footings they must be “floating” I.e. not solid within the concrete.
  11. Great first step and shows it’s not rocket science, well done. My only comment is I don’t like building notice, I prefer full plans, so you don’t get any surprises (maybe).
  12. Nic can you expand, I used I beams for my floors and roof and don’t see a downside?
  13. Quite normal for timber that meets the ground, normally the bottom section is replaced with a scarf joint (angled cut) it may be difficult to cut out the rotten section because of the garage door mechanism.
  14. Welcome and good for you, we all started somewhere and I take my hat off to anyone that has a go, not seen your Utube yet.
  15. However I had some made for my build in oak, rubber seals not brushes and were airtight during the test, it is usually the brush type of seal that’s bad on some.
  16. Thick jumpers, scarfs and woolly underwear 🥷
  17. Yes I prefer the top one (it’s close to what I did) and you can use it for storage.
  18. +1, insulation just needs attention to detail.
  19. Yes I know someone who’s Velux shattered (in an en suite and luckily no one was in there) shower tray was damaged by broken glass, velux replaced the window and paid fir all the damage (I did post this a while ago)
  20. To get the door manufacturers to supply an infill panel. I like arches (I had them on all my windows) 😎
  21. When I did my build I was told by many here that my south facing 10m conservatory with bifolds into the house would overheat but frankly in the several years I was there it never got hotter than a good holiday in the south of France, (which many pay good money for) and during the shoulder seasons and even mild winter days was a lovely place to be.
  22. Your infill brickwork is all that’s supported by the catnic and minimal in weight. You just need to cut it into the existing brickwork at each end (which might compromise the arch stability during fitting !!!!
  23. On the subject of noise, my ASHP at my build was way quieter than the external oil boiler belonging to a neighbour where I currently live (not that close either!!,).
  24. 🤣
