  1. The Old Vic in Bristol was also built on straw bundles in a bog, it only became a problem when newer building methods drained the water table, it then had to be underpinned but it was fine up till then.
  2. It depends on what you are going run in the van, electric shower?, electric heaters?, electric kettle?, tot them all up (plus lighting) and gauge what your needs are.
  3. What about using the valve mentioned on my thread about difficulty wiring an ASHP. ://www.wundatrade.co.uk/shop/home/actuator-auto-balancing/ @JSHarris has used one and says it’s good.
  4. Thanks guys.
  5. I have set the TRV on my UFH manifold to frost and get about 24’ on the flow.
  6. @jack or @JSHarris have you got a link to the Salus valve you talked about earlier, the TRV on the manifold is a bit hit and miss and I want to fine tune it, Ta.
  7. The screed in our sunspace is going down on Friday, builder is putting edge insulation round it and an expansion joint in the middle to cope with temp differences, I can then tile from that expansion gap either way. Glass going in today ?.
  8. Just got my quote from Carrier for the GMC board, £210 + VAT, GULP. I can’t get the Italian website to speak English (my iPad?) . Has anyone got a cheaper price for this item?
  9. We also are having an outside tap where the caravan was during our build, we are also having an outside waterproof socket using the electric cable that fed the van.
  10. About £100 I think, try “parts.uk@carrier.UTC.com” or 08701829548.

    Drills

I bought these https://www.screwfix.com/p/erbauer-hss-drill-bit-trade-pack-150pcs/73567, was fed up with blunt drills and snapping them and waiting to get a replacement, I have a roll holder for one set and use the box as replacements when they snap or go blunt, pretty cheap for 150 drills.
  12. I got my command unit from a carrier branch In England, Southampton I think. People on the forum were searching for them, I just rang Carrier in America and they gave me the number to ring over here, an on the shelf item.
  13. +1, I nip in and out of my pedestrian door more than I open the main door.
  14. Oh yes, I can do electrical stuff but not electronics, frankly I read your thread and the replies regarding how difficult they are to repair that I decided a new board was a must. I am also trending to buy genuine parts as there is so much copy stuff out there and the ASHP is central to our heating. As I said I got a quote from Holland fir £119 plus VAT (that’s with 50% discount) and waiting fir Carrier to give me a price. Jeremy found one on an Italian website (can’t read Italian) and if anyone else finds another source please let me know. Gav, let me know when you get yours from France.
  15. Thats a very good reason, I intend to add internal locks to my electric roller shutter door as it does not seem that secure. I once had a garage broken into that had a normal up and over, scrotes folded one corner of the door up and crawled in and took every power tool.
  16. I have a Pedestrian door next to the main garage door and use it all the time!.
  17. Looking good, I think Jeremy coined the phrase “90% done only 90% to go”, I know, my build feels like that and I use that phrase myself .
  18. Sorry yes, elbows, bent pipe has a lot less resistance. I used to be able to buy “swept bends” bigger radius but dont see them anymore.
  19. Bends in 15mm pipe cause a lot of flow resistance. I once had a job fir a customer who could not get a decent flow on a shower and wanted a pump fitted, I suggested a new pipe run in plastic which was more direct, when that was done the shower worked perfectly and the customer got his money back on the pump.
  20. I agree. Yes a changeover would be good, we are normally just two adults (allegedly!) but have guests visiting regularly. I have to say our Insulated DHW tank has very little losses, (at 50’). er indoors wants the airing cupboard warmer ?.
  21. Yes but I think Jeremy didn’t notice a flow problem, might only show up if more than one shower is used at the same time!
  22. Mine is in the garage as a Backup plan to heat from ASHP DHW temp to usable temp rather than let the ASHP go into defrost mode, storing water at 40’ will have very little in the way of losses.
  23. This thread has reminded me to provide a padlock and chain for my gas bottles feeding the cooker.
  24. I have 10 mil gaps on all mine because we have MVHR (plus I hate doors that drag on the carpet).
  25. As I have said here before I am really lucky with my builder, very willing to learn new things and up to speed already on most things.
