It’s quite common to spread white chippings on these roofs to stop the felt heating up too much, less hot than black felt!

I know you don’t want it level, but, if you did you could incorporate this all round https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/1726633069?iid=270630536321&chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid= -

Sewage Treatment plant noisy
joe90 replied to DannyEvs's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I had exactly the same issue with a vortex, the pump housing was bolted to the top of the tank which acted like a drum, I moved it next to the unit and buried it into the ground (with drainage to stop it flooding and vent pipes to get air into the pump) .I cannot see why you cannot move it away but not qualified to work out the detrimental effect of distance on air pressure . Others have moved their pump and generally housed it in something with mass which absorbs sound. -
if not a watercourse a ditch that Is wet some of the year is what we did with a Vortex treatment plant and rumble drain.

Not a recommendation fir a particular type of ladder but having worked at height most of my life the best thing is to always tie it off at the top. I always have a short length of rope fixed to the top rung so when you get up there it’s simple to wrap it around the tree etc and tie it off on the ladder. When I started work with BT many moons ago we also tied the bottom of the ladder to the pole to stop it sliding away as well.

@Jeremy Harris saved a lot by not roofing under his solar panels but he did have to use an “in roof” water Proof system under the panels to make it water proof , so you will need something under them If only to stop water dripping through the joints. Simple OSB sheets and EPDM roof might be cheaper than standing seam metal.

@SHughesNI I didn’t know about coal tar till you posted above, why not ask your builder to prove it’s not coal tar, /ask for your money back/ask him to remove it/talk to trading standards?- 27 replies

Sketch design for comments/feedback please

A bit late to this but we have a dressing room as a corridor to the ensuite and it works well, good use of space, I did plan doors to the wardrobes either side (ers is walk in) but never got round to it and it looks fine without. -
My dad also used to say “there is no right and wrong there is only opinion” I am sorry you think this is a cheat, I can assure you after years of fitting kitchens it was planned and yes I do think it looks nice (otherwise I would not have bothered with this detail) I am sorry you think mine is a bodge. The end panel is not “floating” it is firmly fixed. The worktop was cut, routed and sealed before fixing. I did not leave the decor panel big, it was ordered and made to my specifications. one of the reasons for not doing my worktop like yours is I have so often heard of people complaining that they have hit their hip bone on that very sharp corner, and again in my opinion an accident waiting to happen as a child catches their head on those sharp corners. Before fitting a kitchen I always attended with a kitchen planner from the supplier to give my opinion based on past experience with customers. yes I like mine ?

yes I am accused of being anal about detail but as my Dad always said “it’s either right or it’s wrong” and I don’t like wrong. People were always surprised when I did DIY projects and commented on the high standard. ( I think people assume DIY means a bodge) When I went self employed as a builder I called myself “D.I.P. builder”, and when people asked me if they were my initials I told them it stood for “do it properly” (and I never got a complaint ?).

thanks, as I said having fitted a few kitchens you get to know what looks good. guilty as charged ? that’s why “planning, planning, planning” pays off.

I even considered making my own i joists as I am fairly good with woodwork ?
-
ha, you’re just like me, my motto is “why buy it if you can make it “ !!!!. During my build I have had to learn life is not long enough to do everything. On my build I have done what I am good at / enjoy and contract out what I am not so good at / don’t enjoy.
-
Having fitted kitchens before ( I have 20.20 hindsight ?) I brought my vertical panels out as I don’t like the edge of the worktop sticking out. (Sorry this does not help you !).

Dire need.Garage foundations with high water table
joe90 replied to SHughesNI's topic in Foundations
I agree, I am on very high water table and solid clay (resembles the Somme in winter), we backfilled the foundation trenches after the blockwork was at DPC with graded drainage stone and a trench to a nearby ditch and it’s worked very well. We did the same with the house. Builder also placed same stone 1 meter wide around build to work from and it saved soo much mess during winter. If you backfill foundation trench like I did it saves having to dig a French drain ?- 27 replies

Yes, my decorator mentioned paint conditioner as good for better results. ?
-
Well painting is a pet hate of mine (which is why I paid a local decorator to paint my new build) however, on my last job before retiring I could not find someone to paint a door blank but was told to use a gloss roller (small foam thing), I was amazed, really good finish after light sanding between coats (I would still rather pay someone tho ?).

I presume you mean scalpings, they grind the old surface of tarmac off to make way fir new tarmac. I bought loads of this from a contractor working in our area and it’s been great, compacted very well for paths and our drive, never heard about recycling it apart from storing to be sold on.- 27 replies

Best way to use wall panels in a shower cubicle?
joe90 replied to Robert Clark's topic in Wall Tiles & Tiling
This was my base profile. Showerwall Sureseal £12.49 + VAT Comprising of 3 parts this sureseal system is made up of the main strip for the panels to be mounted to, end caps to seal off the ends and a front strip that pops in to place to hide the sealant and cut edges leaving a nice tidy finish once installed. -

I ran my wall panel under the shower screen and an end trim level with the outside of the screen trim. -
Welcome also, like Mike we are on clay and agreed with EA and BC that outfall from our treatment plant and rainwater went to nearby ditch, we did a percolation test and I think the water is still there three years later ?????.
