  1. sorry, and me Welcome. ?
  2. yes but the grout is failing in some places also, just can’t bring myself to rip it up as the new kitchen is installed on it and all the skirting. It’s on my (if I live long enough) to do list ?.
  3. My sister had her bathroom tiled like that, I could have done better with my feet!!! (She didn’t want to ask me as she knew I was busy) I found her a “proper” tiler.
  4. I didn’t back butter the kitchen floor and it sounds hollow, didn’t back butter the conservatory floor or hallway and they are fine (I do suspect the adhesive was off for the kitchen tho ?).
  5. Do you have UFH upstairs? What’s the temp set on your manifold?
  6. I concur with the above, MVHR will not move much heat. My heating (ground floor only) has not come on yet this year ( one zone = ground floor set to 21’ with a room stat in the hallway) so no water is being circulated in the UFH. The ASHP heats the DHW when it’s called for and ready to heat the house when the room stat calls fir heat.
  7. I think dried sand is by far the best (cheapest/simplist) solution. Block the bottom holes and using a funnel carefully fill the tank to the top and leave the top pipes open (to relieve any pressure) this will then replicate a stove without a back boiler and installing fire bricks without the hassle ?
  8. I did not inform our DNO of our intention to build a new house with a heat pump as I had been told they still think they are not inverter driven, we are on a 80amp fuse and the heat pump (4KW runs rarely )it’s a well insulated house.
  9. Does that mean a house holder needs to inform the DNO if they instal a 10kW electric shower??.
  10. I think you will struggle to find a plant that is completely silent, I know i looked. I settled for a blower one and it was a bit noisy but by moving the pump to a new location and sound absorbing material it’s now virtually silent. Mine is a vortex.
  11. My brother in law did similar, without a sign off he demanded it was one less bedroom and the price reduced accordingly which worked fir him. You could contact the council, they may inspect and sign it off and if not knock the price down and take the risk about how much it will cost to meet regs.
  12. Welcome to THE forum, lots of knowledge here, bring on the questions and we love photo,s.
  13. Great for suitcases and Christmas trees (false) etc.
  14. Welcome, yes it has a back boiler and firing this up without water is not a good idea. It may be possible to remove it or fill with very dry sand. edit, just cross posted with @PeterW
  15. @epsilonGreedy is yours a warm roof? If so the storage in the loft is an asset IMO, saves masses of cupboards in the house and with an easy usable loft ladder easily accessible. A good place fir the MVHR if you’re fitting one and mo need to insulate the pipework (apart from the incoming pipes from the outside) ?
  16. I would build over it if possible, you don’t water building up if it is still “connected” to a source somewhere !
  17. If the new garage is not complete, is it a building? I think you may only loose the VAT on materials used before the planning date.
  18. My lovely oak conservatory has had three coats of expensive protector Applied but is failing on some external parts . It must be the weather as inside is fine and that gets lots of UV. Some people say Oak is ok not protected and some listed old properties have untreated oak windows etc hundreds of years old. I don’t mind it being “silver” in colour (and I hate painting and it’s expensive!!!!). What would you do?
  19. no it led to osb getting sodden before GRP was laid and had to be ripped off and replaced (I know it was not a slated roof like yours) plus the fact I had to get it (Most of it) back from various gardens .
  20. Putting a tarp on the roof just guarantees high winds and frankly they never work as you want and a constant worry (I have found out the hard way) , get it felted and battened.
  21. Dead easy and cheap in a new Build, more difficult and more work in a refurb. UFH suits an ASHP set up.
  22. I agree with the above, mine is off for most of the summer as we open windows and doors during that time so frankly it’s redundant.
  23. That’s identical to mine and works well.
  24. Welcome to THE self build forum and yes a wealth of knowledge from those that are doing/done it.
