UFH under 150mm screed with mesh reinforcement.
joe90 replied to Matt60's topic in Underfloor Heating
Loads here have UFH pipes fitted to steel mesh within a concrete floor on insulation, yes heat up time is long but most tend to just keep it at a nominal temp 24/7 (I do mine). -
ASHP installed together with existing heating system
joe90 replied to Bruno's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Why?, I heat my DHW to 48’ and cannot hold my hand under the hot tap or shower at that temp (and I like it HOT). Why would winter make any difference, the COP might be slightly less (reliant on RH rather than temp) -
Or a little drawing with measurements!

Sorry but that’s worse, if you say the wall is 8” wide and fully within your property (as defined by the render/pebble dash edge) then it’s your wall. As @PeterStarck and I said, get legal advise, it’s a civil matter and your neighbour thinks you will not challenge him.

Do you have legal cover with your house insurance, ?

greenery in the way to see properly, @Meechl85 can we have a better picture?

What is this spinning bevel edge planer called?
joe90 replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Tools & Equipment
yes, get yourself a book on the subject, good for reference. I have been routing for years and it’s very satisfying, carefull with the speed, too fast will burn wood very easily. Lots of practice on off cuts. I have a dovetail jig for mine and it’s a very satisfying and professional looking joint. -
Having read all the above going to a solicitor is your best option IMO. He does sound like an arrogant bar stuward . Unless you fancy demolishing the wall as an option b.
-
I did not know that till my sparky told me during our build.

UFH? I have mixer bars so nothing buried that needs changing Shower wastes should be cleanable and serviceable from above! I have a free standing bath so all pipework accessible . I went plastic pipework from manifolds so no joints within runs.?

Surface run pipes???

On the subject of bifolds I love ours but they do open into a large south facing conservatory from the kitchen diner and lounge, the conservatory (despite being told here would overheat and be un useable in summer) . In shoulder months when the sun is shining the bifolds are open and it heats the house, when the conservatory gets really hot we keep them shut to keep the house cool (not often). When/if it gets that hot it has two double doors and large windows to vent the space. I can’t think of anything that we got wrong, ASHP, MVHR, insulation max UFH all works well.

Yes this went through my mind. Tell him you are demolishing YOUR wall and giving him adequate notice. That will wake him up!!!

VAT evidence to HMRC
joe90 replied to Moonshine's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
I was told it just needs a sellers VAT number but my VAT specialist challenged several receipts of mine that had this and got the correct ones sent. (I would not have known this). -
VAT evidence to HMRC
joe90 replied to Moonshine's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
I am not the best at paperwork and wanted to focus on the build so engaged a VAT tax man that does this for a living, was well worth the couple of hundred quid as he contacted suppliers whose receipts were not right (that I had not noticed) recovered money paid to my builder in error. He got me more money back than he cost me. I can recommend him and others on this forum have used him. -
perhaps I am OCD ?, but I prefer a lid closed unless it’s being used, there was an advert on TV recently for nice bathroom smelly stuff, it showed someone flushing the toilet and air particles (smell) emanating from the pan, this would not happen if you shut the lid before flushing (then you can use/see the flush plate). Perhaps that’s why it was designed that way?

Depends if you want a warm loft or cold loft. Mine is warm (insulation under slates), My whole roof structure is made of I beams instead of rafters, the depth, 400mm, gives me 400mm for rockwall insulation.
-
I have done just that in our warm loft, used I beams fir rafters with 400mm insulation between, osb clad inside and sealed, foldable loft ladder into large loft with floor.
-
Both the above, you’d be surprised what people will take if it’s free?. You could aways hire a chipper, put it in dumpy bags and use it fir landscaping when you finish!

Minimum Reasonable wall width for good U values?
joe90 replied to puntloos's topic in Heat Insulation
Plaster always goes on as 2 coats (to brick or block), back in the day “browning” was used to straighten/undercoat then top coat. Sand/cement just replaces the “undercoat “. Dot and dab with plasterboard just replaces the undercoat. -

I had sand/cement internal skim with plaster top coat, as smooth as any other plastering!!! And no chance of air leaks and very solid to fix too!. -
Water softener?

If I was a current resident using a wheelchair or kids pushchair or even elderly persons I would be on to the police regularly, blocking the pavement may not be against the law but very dangerous. An accident waiting to happen. Many years ago my brother lived In a narrow road and cars parked both sides. Fire engine could not get down the road (non emergency) and the police booked every car in the street and told residents they must not park on the (narrow) pavements and decide between them which side of the road is for parking!!, luckily my brother was away at the time ?.
