Non integrated but hidden washing machine
joe90 replied to willbish's topic in Kitchen Units & Worktops
Not all machines have a cleanable filter at the base!. (Mine does and it’s great to have). Easy enough to have a removable piece of kickboard to access the filter if you need too. -

I have used these in the past, can hardly see them and you can remove the glass to decorate! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/193076194765?epid=13039745116&hash=item2cf43cedcd:g:fLgAAOSwkwVePSe5 p.s. Is this a solid wall or plasterboard. Might find it difficult to find mountings/fixings fir heavy stuff on plasterboard unless you have timbers behind to fix too. -

+1 fir showerwall after years of trying to clean grout. Why do you need to cover the wall?, I have a freestanding bath with just painted walls (bath/kitchen paint) and any water just gets wiped off. -
Does anyone use 3" diameter wood roll on hips or ridges?
joe90 replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
I would guess at 2” (unless he has very big hands ?), shame we didn’t see him dress the bottom edge of the roll, I would like to see that. Great to see good tradesmen at work (and he was not that old!). -
I didn’t inform mine!

Advise required around new roof - not straight!
joe90 replied to Ryan G's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Some roofers kick the ends up slightly to drive any water away from the gable end. -

I think you will find it’s because gas is heavier than air and if a leak occurs the gas will sit in the boat bilges and be an explosion risk, whereas caravans have a low level vent so the gas can escape. You can’t have a low level vent on a boat ?. -
Not enough glue in 22mm Egger Chipboard installation?

If your guy does not do as he is told/informed, what else is he going to do In Future. I could not trust someone like that to work fir me. -

I don’t need to wait that long, mine works very well now as do others here, as you say not the answer for every situation but that is no reason to say they don’t work.

I also think getting gates before placing 2nd post is best, crack on with first post. If you want the gates to only open 90’ then hinges on the inside is ok, if you want them to open more than that then on the inside would be better. You will need something to stop them opening outwards into the road.

I knew nothing about ASHP,s or UFH (despite being very practical and a retired small time builder), through input from forum members I designed and installed my own system. I did not use PHPP but very roughly guessed some info and copied others here (that knew far more than me. ) Jeremy Harris,s blog is an absolute mine of information and definitely a very good read fir self builders, @Nickfromwales also added volumes to my knowledge (and even arranged discount on some parts fir a few of us on the forum). It’s not rocket science but it is different from other heating types . I believe it is well within the practical skills to DIY the installation and many on this forum are very willing to help answer questions.

You got that right, I have a post spade (narrow long spade fir digging post holes),https://www.screwfix.com/p/roughneck-drainage-shovel/4405k also a “bar” (long metal bar with flattened end) which is good fir prising out stones etc. Remember the bigger the hole the more postcrete you will need. You can always put gravel in the postcrete to make it go further.

Not enough glue in 22mm Egger Chipboard installation?
joe90 replied to Adsibob's topic in Floor Structures
NO ? -
I think not, just makes it harder to get the post in the right place, just buy a new flat bit to drill the holes, only a fiver https://www.screwfix.com/p/dewalt-flat-wood-drill-bit-25-x-150mm/6788v or a longer one https://www.screwfix.com/p/flat-wood-drill-bit-25-x-300mm/3152v

Are we finished yet?
joe90 commented on canalsiderenovation's blog entry in Canalside Bungalow Renovation
Yes but the ventilation is only required for gas use, don’t connect gas to it and just run it from 12v ?(hopefully “uncle” can repair it.) -
Not enough glue in 22mm Egger Chipboard installation?
joe90 replied to Adsibob's topic in Floor Structures
My flooring had glue running out of the joints above and below, it does sound like they were mean with it. I don’t suppose there is any way of proving them wrong tho ?. If you wanted to test it you could use a hole saw and take a plug out across a join somewhere (under a wardrobe/bath!,,) then see if the two halves are glued, if not you have evidence. -

Caravan fridges run off 240v, 12v or gas. -
As the shorter gate is fixed to the shallower post I do not think it’s a problem, just make sure you back fill with postcrete or something very solid. ?
-
what do you really suggest for a well insulated house not on the gas grid? Oil?, bottled gas? I use a “green” electricity supplier who supports non fossil fuel derived supplies. It is true I am a pensioner now but as I pointed out with a house of 6 people my system still coped. I don’t think using a heat pump is going back to the 70,s
-
With my system designed primarily for two people but occasional guests it has never run out of hot water (6 people at max), 300 litres of hot water is more than adequate. ? it’s all about planning the installation properly.
-
I believe I am right in quoting Dave in that an ASHP will not give endless hot water on demand or work in cold weather. Oh, and are very noisy.
-
Have you read the previous threads here on this subject with actual cases of ASHP installations that work very well?.(mine being one of them). No doubt that Dave’s not one of those but I am sure cowboys will get any kind of installation wrong.
