Right, thanks guys for your suggestions, finally found local builder to lay the slab( for a resonable price ), thanks to @Gus Potter for his suggestions (he is an S.E.), steel ordered and boarding for shuttering, hoping to lay in a couple of weeks (I work very slowly now I am ancient 🙄). On another note, i downsized the garage, I was being greedy and left it tight to park my car alongside it so now 6m long by 4m wide, big enough for my toys!., pics to follow.

I think it all depends on what you want to use the space for, your table and chairs appear to fit nicely! And you have the other area to use as well. Too big can look out of place (and costly).

I get that @Adsibob but a slab that is strong enough (100mm?) will not crack and as said above it will all move as one, I am no S.E. but an additional 0.1m depth of concrete won’t stop that movement unless like your house extension you go much deeper (then 100mm will still be enough?). It’s the depth of excavation, not the thickness of the concrete, Someone prove me wrong,

I am going half that for a car garage (timber structure tho). And it’s been assessed by an S.E.

Unless using an integrated machine (which I dislike) I always left more than 600mm, makes it very awkward to move in and out and as washing machines get old they rattle and wobble about and need more room (IMO) a friend of mine had an integrated washing machine fitted and within 6 months the cupboards were being bashed and falling apart (he didn’t listen to me).

That’s an easy fix. Yes timber moves, you just have to work with it. I have read reviews for the one I want and with my past knowledge of working with timber don’t foresee any problems 🤞

The kit comes with treated battens for floor mounting, but I may replace these with plastic battens, I cannot go up anymore as have to stay under 2.5m, I am not using the standard opening wooden doors but installing a sectional up and over door.

It’s only 44mm log “effect” construction so minimal weight in the garage itself .

If using only 6mm I would make sure ply edges between joists were supported (I.e. scrap wood screwed to both edges).

I am going to build a timber (log type) garage 5m x 6m at my new house under permitted development and I need a slab for it, I propose 100mm hardcore or MOT whacked down, sand blinding, dpm membrane then 100mm of concrete with steel mesh embedded. Is this reasonable?, only a kit car and motorbike using it so no real heavy loads.

However, the accuracy of the holes is required on the outside! Does it matter if it deflects a little inside? From the outside will give you 200mm of making sure it’s horizontal 🤷‍♂️ plus if you use a decent SDS drill bit I find they don’t wander much at all.
