Current approximate prices for plastering?
ToughButterCup replied to gwebstech's topic in Plastering & Rendering
And all because of one phrase in one sentence in Planning Law (para 11 here) ' ... the presumption in favour of sustainable development ...' -
200 watts to keep my study warm? Please check my maths.
ToughButterCup replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Heat Insulation
Got a few cats? It's about 15 Watts a cat innit? A dog maybe 30 - 50 Watts. Put their beds close to any potential airflow round the doors.... Well on the way to smelly warmth. -
Have you tried asking for quotes?

Have you asked for quotes? I suspect that price will be very sensitive to local factors . -

"Naasah, yer wunt 10kW mate ... 's wot vey all 'ave round yur...... 10kW - at least." -
The kind interpretation: its not their fault: the insulation is exposed. The harsh interpretation, the design wasn't fully thought through. Have a look ... Schematically, it looks like this The red dot area is my concern. That little bit of insulation seems to attract them - funny type of roughage innit? Anyhoo, if the chuck's don't eat it rodents will. How do I protect that 150mm gap from the local Random Ravenous Rodent ?

Don't do it mate. They only give you a false sense of confidence ? -
Planning laws preventing my dream home.
ToughButterCup replied to Waterworks's topic in Planning Permission
There's a Kevin What's His Face program about someone who did exactly what you want to do ... if I can I'll look it up. The builder built a stunning house - he'd lived (well, camped would be a better way of putting it) on site for several years. The Planning Conditions imposed on the owner were eye-wateringly restrictive. Among other things, he wasn't allowed sell the property. Mind you , @Waterworks, come to Wyre Borough, buy yourself a field with some trees in it - and move in. The guy next door to me - 25meters away - has done exactly that. Discharges human waste to ground. No treatment system - at all. Here it is (the waste) - you can see it from space: you can see my place being built just to the North. Unfortunately, Street View is not as up to date as the satellite view. All he has to put up with is the occasional visit from the Council. And that gets sorted by a humungous gate and Rhodesian Ridgeback dog. Simples. -
Just for completeness, where are your foul drain runs?

Today's delight: making holes in concrete
ToughButterCup replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
He's got a wooden leg, a seriously broken nose, every tooth in his head is false and suffers from the worst dose of haletosis I've ever seen. His wig is usually on back to front and he dresses like Greg or Terry on the Simpsons. Apart from that he's a good bloke. -
Neighbour has objected to our plans
ToughButterCup replied to Robert Clark's topic in Planning Permission
[...] The only thing I would add to what J has said is to change is to may be - as changed above. Why? It depends on whether -locally- there are strict criteria to follow - or whether the decision depends on the judgement of the Officer concerned. I suspect the latter is the case. Your application looks to me to be perfectly acceptable. Stick to your guns. -

I found that stitch drilling is faster. A mate called round yesterday. His name might as well be Russell Griffiths. "You got a stud finder?" Yes "Used it?" ? Reaches into my tool bag and roots around. Brings out the Teuton Stud / Bar / Wire finder. Scrapes around on the wall. Waits til it goes green. Marks the spot. You know what happens next. Sometimes I can't see the wood for the trees. 6 more holes to go. ? -
Connecting a check valve to 25mm alkathene
ToughButterCup replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Plumbing
Nothing is obvious to me, nothing: until I've got it wrong three times and learned the hard way. No, the plastic fitting is NOT tapered. What difference (tapered or not) does that make? The brass fitting is tapered a bit, though. Thanks both. Ian -
Have look at this please ..... Don't I need some sort of seal / O ring in the brass check-valve? Ian
